...Affirmative action-related fraud does have precedent. In 1990, the Boston Fire Department found that six of its firefighters had falsely claimed minority status on their applications, including white twin brothers Phillip and Paul Malone.

Initially, the brothers failed to qualify due to low test scores on their first test. On new applications, they claimed a great-grandmother was black. Though they earned the same test scores the second time around, they qualified for jobs under new minority outreach standards. After 10 years on the job, they were fired for fraud...

And this is the stupidity of affirmative action at work. So if they had a black great-grandmother they were qualified to put out fires, but if they didn't then they're not qualified?

The job of the firefighter is to put out fires and save lives. I wonder if you could calculate how many people have died due to the ineptitude of someone who got the job solely because of race?

What if someone is one-third black or one-quarter Latino? Is a man with white skin with some Puerto Rican blood or a great-grandfather who was black meet the criteria for an underrepresented minority group? Who decides?

Since the policy is made to appease liberals, then your "blackness" or "Latino-ness" will be determined by your political stance with a liberal, envirowacko, America hater who claims 1% black ancestry will get preference over a black conservative whose parents are both born in Nigeria and whose skin is as black as the ace of spades.

“They [conservatives] have a lot of unchecked assumptions,” Walters said, ”You don’t automatically get in [to a university] using your race."

But you DO automatically get special consideration. That consideration can mean the difference between getting admitted and not even being considered.

The universities don't seem to think it is a problem so they apparently aren't ready to do background checks on an applicant's genealogy. The result is going to be cheating because many people will cheat when they know the odds are in their favor that they won't get caught. And the ones that play by the rules resent the policies that allow cheating with little or no consequences.

Um....“Is [fraud] a significant concern? No. It’s an infinitesimal number of people we’re talking about here,” Bositis said.

I have a close friend who went to law school in New York--a very white French gal--who applied as an 'African American'...looking for a confrontation...she was accepted as a minority, unquestioned.

If I happen to know one--and I'm sure many do know others--I'd say this is a huge thing...for those with balls enough to carry it off.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Why can't a caucasian person claim to be an African-American on a job application?

All modern humans are descended from ancestors in Africa.

Therefore, aren't we all African-Americans?

A friend and I were talking about minority set asides in government contracts. Which, BTW, shut our small company out of any work due to our whiteness, but I digress. He related the story of an collegue who had a mother from the Phillipines and father was a white American. He applied for a federal contract under minority set asides. He was called in to verify and when he asked how, was told that they wanted to look at him. ????? The manager told him they had to look at him to see if the mothers genes were dominant or recessive and hence the contract hinged on his appearance.

We be Trans-Ethnic, and proud to take whatever the man owes us!

I guessing your post is in jest....however comma I think there is real potential in running a business to help people. Not necessarily to "beat" the system, but to exploit all of the loopholes the liberals put in it. For instance, members of certain tribes of Indians receive 'reparations' checks from the federal government. Payment amount is based on a % of an individuals "Indian-ness". Full-blooded receive more than 1/2-blooded, who receive more than 1/4-bloods, etc.

So, who's to say that my grandfather or great grandfather wasn't a really light skinned black man, therefore, since all my paternal ancestors were, technically speaking, "black", aren't I "black" enough for U of M? (ok, I admit to looking extremely white and having no rythm, but that's for another post.) Let them tell me I'm not "black enough" and I'll have a dozen lawyers and Al Sharpton all over them quicker 'an you can say "O'tay, 'Panky!" )

Hi, my name is George W. Bush, and I am an African-American.

All modern humans are descended from ancestors in Africa, and I am a modern human, so therefore, I am an African-American.

Can anyone prove me wrong and prove that I am not legally an African-American?

Just use a white person born in South Africa or Rhodesia who immigrated to the US. Wouldn't that person be African American.

In that same spirit, my kids are going to check the "Native American" box on their college apps. Both were born right here on this continent and I have the paperwork to prove it.
