Rice: Peaceful Change Could be Achieved if Israel Fulfills its Obligations

http://www.ipc.gov.ps/ipc_e/ipc_e-1/e_News/news2003/2003-08/105.html

WASHINGTON, August 26, 2003 (IPC + Agencies)[Official PA website] - - US National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice said Monday that if Israel wants to see a peaceful change in the region, it should fulfill its obligations towards peace.

Rice played down the fallout from last week’s bus bombing in Jerusalem, stressing that “despite the horrific events in recent days, we have seen progress toward peace for Israelis and Palestinians.”

She said Israel should fulfill its responsibilities to help achieving a peaceful change in the region, making clear that it is in Israel’s interest for Palestinians to govern themselves in a state being viable, peaceful, democratic and committed to fighting "terror".

Meanwhile, the American administration reiterated its wish that Palestinian Prime Minister, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), hold responsibility for all Palestinian security bodies.

Spokesman of the US State Department, Philip Reeker, told reporters Monday that for PM Abu Mazen to hold such responsibilities, is necessary for pushing forward the "Road Map" peace plan.

Israeli occupying forces (IOF) have determined recently to step up the offensive on the Palestinian people by assassinating members of Palestinian resistance groups, as what happened in the past few days, when a number of Palestinians were killed and dozens injured, including children in Gaza due to these operations.

Moreover, Head of the Israeli Knesset’s Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, Yuval Shteinitz, called Monday for expelling Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and PM Abu Mazen as well as his cabinet members then holding an Israeli army-observed general election.

The Palestinian leadership started yesterday contacts with various concerned international bodies out of concern over likely military Israeli escalation and in light of Israeli plans to expel Palestinian officials.

Rice Think Elephants Can Fly

[IMRA: US National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice said Monday that it is in Israel’s interest for Palestinians to govern themselves in a state being viable, peaceful, democratic and committed to fighting terror. But since there is every indication, based on the experience of the last decade, that such a state would be neither peaceful, democratic or committed to fighting terror, her comment is not relevant for the real world. One indication of the PA attitude towards terror is that in the report below the word "terror" appears in quotation marks. That is because while Ms. Rice considers murdering Israelis terror, the PA doesn't.]

Yes, it's a Palestinian source, the PA itself in fact. And from other threads I know she didn't really mean what she said. But words do have meanings, and it's important to note how the participants receive them. Intentional or not, a message was sent.

Rice meant exactly what she said. The Bush Administration is drinking the Klinton Kool-Aid. It is going to get ugly for them.

What is she smoking? A peaceful Palestinian State? 'A state would be fine as long as it doesn't interfere with our main goal of blowing up Jews.' Afterall, what are few bus bombs between us as we live in harmony side by side.

Problem is a viable, peaceful, democratic and committed to fighting terror Palestinian state is a fiction. I can't figure out if all the stuff we hear concerning the "roadmap" from our leaders is posturing or if they really believe this garbage. Can they be so stupid to believe the Muslims will ever tolerate a Jewish state anywhere much less the ME. And ultimately tolerate a non-Muslim state anywhere?

This is a repost that explains why Islam will never tolerate the Jews of Israel. According to Islamic doctrine no territory may leave Islamic rule once it has been conquered by Islam. Israel exists on what was once Muslim ruled (Turks and others) land. The Islamics want this turf back, will never accept Jews having their own nation there, no matter how small Israel is.

Islam views the world as divided into the Dar el Harb, or the world of war and Dar el-Islam or the world of Islam. The radical Muslim believes he's commanded by Allah to engage in Jihad, or holy war, against the Dar el Harb or the non-Muslim world. Because of its geography, Israel is on the front line in this Jihad. The radical Muslim will not rest until Israel is returned to the Dar el-Islam. Jews not killed or driven out, in the radical Muslim view, would be allowed to live as dhimmis. This is what they think of as tolerance.

Crux of the conflict:
Israel must, according to Islam, be viewed as the conqueror of a land that once was under Islam, and therefore must always be, under the Dar el-Islam - the House of Islam. This is the starting point, in the Arabs' minds, of any negotiations with Israel, irrespective of historical right or the letter of international law.

With this in mind, it is little wonder that the Palestinians - 10 years into the "peace" process - continue to view Israel as an enemy and teach their children to do the same.

Nor should it be surprising that the Palestinians view violent acts of brutality against the Israeli "conqueror" as a perfectly legitimate means of regaining a land that - while it was never a sovereign Palestinian Arab entity - was once firmly in the grasp of Islam.

What the West fails to understand, however, is that the Palestinians are not truly driven by the letter of international law, but rather by another force - Islam. The tenets of Islam will never allow the Arabs to view Israel as an entity that may actually have a legitimate claim to the land, but is nonetheless willing to trade that claim for peaceful coexistence.

Why is the GWBush Administration so blind to the Israeli/Palestinian situation? Terrorists are terrorists.

Hey, Condi! How many Palestinian buses filled with innocent civilians have been blown up by Israeli homicide bombers in the last week? month? year? decade?

Why is the GWBush Administration so blind to the Israeli/Palestinian situation? Terrorists are terrorists. And Yassar Arafat is their king.

Israel's population is 6 million. USA population is about 40 times larger. This bus bombing in the USA would translate to 800 dead and 4000 injured. How long would we tolerate our citizens being murdered in such numbers?

The US needs to stay out of Israel's face and let them handle things their own way without threats from us. This is one issue I really feel is being mishandled by Bush and Co. The islamic nations want to destroy Israel and will try, but God won't let them. Too bad it has to end up in a big battle some day, but should we be surprised? It's been prophesied for many years. Palestinians don't want peace. They like pieces! The more pieces of Jews they can destroy, the better they like it. Animals.

Ms. Rice, like Mr. Powel are delusional. ISRAEL IS NOT THE PROBLEM, Islam and the foolish idea of a so-called "palatinian state" is the problem. They want Israel destroyed and all the Jews, killed or enslaved, PERIOD.

Heavenly Father, your Word is very clear; we are to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" and you have promised to "Bless those who bless Israel" and "curse those who curse Israel".

Lord, in order to fulfill these injunctions I have one and only one prayer request for our President:

Open His eyes to the truth, help him to once and for all realize that Israel's enemies are America's enemies. Work in his heart to FINALLY STOP listening to the likes of Colin Powel (and now Condi Rice) who saw Israel is at fault and who begged the terrorist Arafat to work to stop the violence (he himself has instigated) in order to “salvage” the "Road Map to Peace". Father this is something we as a nation and he as our President would NEVER do with Bin Ladden and his ilk.

Lord God, instead of encouraging Israel to "maintain restraint", lead President Bush to set Arial Sharon and Israel free to defend themselves; to utterly destroy these Islamic savages, these killers of innocent women and children. These wicked men who follow and serve an evil, wicked, bloody god, whose stated goal is the utter destruction of Israel.

Convict our president that it is the height of hypocrisy to take the stand he has undertaken. We cannot fight and kill terrorists and defend our own nation from those who have brutally slaughtered our citizens and who threaten our very existence while at the same time forbidding Israel from doing the very same thing. Until our president does this; we as a nation are under your curse and will continue to be guilty of supporting the destruction of Israel all in the name of a “roadmap to peace”.

This is my only request the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, amen

The "Israeli occupying forces (IOF)?" The (PTO) - "Palestinian Terrorist Organization" is more like it.

Israel's obligation is to their citizens.

Hey dennis, that pro-rata Netanyahu math can be dangerous stuff if one is fairminded and intellectually consistent enough to allow it's application to areas that run contrary to one's angle/worldview/arguement.

The guys I've seen float it on talking heads programs are lucky no one has shown the stones to flip it back on them.

I could care less what you think about it Pinkie. I think I've seen you complain about this before. Fact is Muslims killing 20 people in Israel is equal to 800 Americans being killed by an enemy. In each case the percentage of citizens killed is the same. You can evaluate the murders some other way if you want. I don't care anymore. I don't care anymore about your indecent opinions about Israel. Get it?

What a stupid statement at the worst possible time by a remarkably bright woman. What the heck is going on in the White House? Seems that Israel's "obligation" is to have scores of women and children murdered over and over, while the P.A.'s "obligation" is to promise nothing and deliver even less. And this is all fine and dandy with Mr Powell and Ms Rice (and Mr Bush, apparently).

Anyone notice how ever since Bush abruptly and inexplicably adopted the Saudi-created Road Map plan in May that things have gone south in Iraq? When you oppose the Lord, you lose his blessings.

I don't know all the facts except that one million plus Christian Greeks and Armenians were killed by the Ottoman Muslims in the early 1900s

>>>>>>>> Common sense would say the closer to Mecca this happens (Israel) the more serious the Islamics are about retaking land that was taken from them. Plus Arab  nations are only real Muslims nations and Arabs are the only true Muslims. VS Naipaul says this is an undercurrent in the Islamic world. Thus Israel has taken Arab land while Spain, Balkans, Greece were never owned by Arab Muslims. Were "owned" by other Muslims

To inflict that much mayhem, it would take the equivalent of over 70 NYC buses simultaneously bombed at the height of rush hour. If it could be proven that terrorists just across the border had committed this act, at the direction of the Canadian government, a state of war would exist.

Yet Israel is supposed to "fulfill" a laundry list of "obligations" in the face of such carnage. Screw you Madame Rice.
