I pre-ordered this book when it appeared on Amazon. During the time it took for it to arrive, I confess that the constant drum-beat and distortions of Coulter's critics had started to color my view of the book's thesis--or the thesis that the critics attributed to the book. I just finished reading it, and I'm glad I did. Although Coulter's spin does go over the top occasionally with respect to some minor details (an error in tone, not fact), I think she makes a compelling case that (a) McCarthy was right, (b) McCarthy has been a victim of a sustained smear campaign, (c) "McCarthyism" is for the most part a Leftist myth, and (d)the Democrats and liberals who aided and abetted the Left's smear job did so because they could not admit that their administrations had let 300+ Soviet agents infiltrate the federal government.

I should also note that the book is about much more than McCarthy and that it is well-written, well-documented, and interesting.

I have also just finished Treason and I agree with you. Interestingly enough my 16 year old just started 11th grade and his English teacher sent home a list of books to be read. One of them is The Crucible. In the course they are going to draw comparisons thru "discussion/indoctrination" between the witch hunts of Salem and Joe McCarthy. My blood is boiling and I will not permit them to continue lying to our children. This school year is going to be challenging to say the least.

I can recall the same "discussions" in my class (years ago ;'}
Fortunately for me, Monty Python's "Holy Grail" movie had come out and provided me with the proper degree of irrelevance to counter my overtly socialist "teacher".

"...and I will not permit them to continue lying to our children..."

Would your 16-year old read 'Treason'?
Why not ask?

I have already filled him in on various bits during our dinner time conversations. I read him the last page which was a wow moment for me and I just had to share it. :) Hopefully I can get him to read it but he will have to have a dictionary close by and I will have to explain some of Ann's more colorful comments. Her footnotes provide some good resources. He's more interested in cars and motorcycles right now. We shall see what happens.
