I don't remember a lot of "conservatives" supporting Bush for his pro-life stance after they were "betrayed" by his breaking the no-new-taxes pledge. The point is, if you don't like a candidate, you will probably find something about him that you can stand on principle so as not to vote for him. That is even probably true of 100% of the candidates. Fine. But don't you even want a seat at the table to talk about your positions? And don't you believe people change in 25+ years? I sure have.

Abortion is legal; that's a fact. Why does one need to be "pro" abortion if it's already legal? All you're saying is that you're in favor of killing unborn child. What kind of a moral statement is that?!

It's doubtful that abortion is ever going to be made illegal. In fact, the limit to how far you can go has already been reached. Right now, you can legally kill your child to within seconds of its being born naturally. It's called partial birth abortion. The only way they can extend the limit is to to make it legal to kill your child AFTER it's been born. And some people are indeed advocating that, e.g. Peter Singer.

This is an extreme moral issue. Being anti-abortion is a position that all conservatives should hold. Otherwise, why call yourself a conservative? This is the main issue, folks. There's nothing else that determines your moral fiber. Personally, I'd rather have an Arnold who did sex & drugs and who was AGAINST abortion, rather than an Arnold who was as pure as the driven snow and who was FOR abortion. Unfortunately, he's on the wrong side on both.

It's all comes down to character. And nothing determines character better than where you stand on the abortion issue. And in Arnold's case, he's got two strikes against him.
