Rockitz: First, let me say that I believe that those who do venture to this country are among the brightest and hardest working individuals that the world has to offer.

Bikers4Bush: You lost me after that.

Me: Ditto. I am sick and tired of people claiming that only the "brightest and hardest working" are swarming into the U.S.

And whenever I hear that sorry old claptrap of "they only want a better life", I ask myself: As opposed to what? The rest of us who "only want a crappier life"?

Just deport illegal aliens now!

This topic, and its subsequent threads, bring out the worst discourse at FR.

I'm actually quite encouraged. I think it clearly demonstrates that there are real solutions and utopian solutions. While many of the ideals of the utopian solutions are admirable and certainly desireable in the long term, those who propose them have forgotten the weapon used so adeptly by the Left- INCREMENTALISM. My proposition is incrementalism in its most appetizing package for the Left- A TAX. It can be passed legislatively and it will solve the most pressing problems: 1) covering the costs of illegal immigration and 2) discouraging illegal immigration.

Why yes, I am a rocket scientist.

See post #24. Remember, our universities are internationally regarded as the finest and accordingly the finest students from around the world come to attend them. Some stay, some go back home. Apologies for any confusion on your part.

You missed my point on a concurrent reduction in income tax rates.

Let's see: Britain and Canada have the VAT. Canada seems to have become a magnet for immigrants, because it offers full social services and living allowances just about as soon as you sneak acrosss the border.

I know the liberals hate VAT and sales taxes of all kinds, because they say they are a "regressive" tax, that affects the poor more than the rich.

Here are a couple sentences you possibly missed. Although all would pay it, those legal residents who are responsible in paying and filing their tax returns could recoup such taxes through reduced income tax rates. For those at the lower end of the economic scale, such taxes could be offset by credits. For those at the upper end of the economic scale, such taxes could be used to justify substantial decreases in income tax rates.

I'm a pragmatist, so as I have previously inferred, our enforcement of immigration laws SUCKS! This approach does not address enforcement, it simply 1) covers costs of illegal immigration and 2) discourages illegal immigration through an imposed higher cost of living.

Sorry I didn't miss anything. Switching one tax for another or reducing a tax while you add one is not, I repeat, IS NOT a reduction of taxes.

REALITY is: Taxes NEVER decrease! Again ... NEVER! When a tax is created it ALWAYS grows bigger. I missed nothing.

"Boris, you make more sense and I agree with your masterful plan. Now, how to implement it?"

We could start by electing Tancredo President. Yeah, I know--in an alternate universe.

No offense, but this is like the farmer who has a fox killing his chickens. His solution is to produce skinnier chickens.

Illegals just plain do not care what sort of legal obstacles are in place. The only deterrent understood is physical. Be it armed U.S. citizens, one big-ass wall, or the Guard.

You are living in a politician's world. I again repeat I didn't miss anything you said ... we have already heard this stuff before. As most of us know, this stuff bites the average citizen in the butt, and it hurts!

I have known rocket scientists before ... they know SO much, but the ones I have known have very little common sense. The ones I knew worked at Lawrence Livermore Lab, does that count?

Have a good weekend ... and keep on thinking. This can be a good thing.

Oh, I see your solution. Let's all just continue to pay for illegal immigrants through higher income tax rates and higher insurance premiums and let them continue to earn cash compensation tax free and continue to encourage them to come to get all these free services. That's brilliant! You should be a rocket scientist. The status quo is unacceptable. ARE WE CLEAR?

I would ask that you read it again and comprehend it this time. As proposed, the VAT would be revenue neutral for responsible individuals who pay payroll taxes through reduced tax rates. VAT attacks illegal immigrants in their pockets through a higer cost of living. This serves two purposes: 1) covering costs of illegal immigration and 2) discouragement of illegal immigration.

You don't get it and at this point I don't have the patience to explain it to you.

You missed my comments in the second paragraph. The implementation is ideally revenue neutral for those legal residents who are responsible in paying and filing their tax returns.

I agree on illegals, but that isn't the issue. The guy's first statemen was that most IMMIGRANTS (not "illegals") come here and work hard, and everyone bashed him for that.

So your plan is this: rather than have our government secure the borders, you want to tax me on every G*d damn thing I buy? No thanks. I'd rather just not have the 20 million law breakers in my country.

You are way off topic. Your crab against the post was a blanket one against IMMIGRANTS, not "illegals." I know in your mind they are the same, but clue! They ain't.

Immigrants make up some of the most productive groups in America and account for our huge lead in science and tech. It was immigrants that built the a-bomb and rockets. Don't try to wiggle out of your post against immigrants by now saying you meant "illegals," because that wasn't what the original poster said. He WENT ON to talk about illegals.
