That's probably a better term. "Immigrant" has many positive connotations, and many who identify with the term. Illegal entrants is much better, much less loaded term. We should adopt it.

The local (southern Ca.) PC term is "undocumented immigrants". I suppose these new Consular Whatever cards will improve their status to US citizens.

i still like calling them what they are "ILLEGAL ALIENS"
To: AZ GRAMMY
Illegal alien is better than illegal immigrant. But I like "entrant." It describes WHAT they did. They illegally entered.

This just illustrates how our current immigration policy is a total failure for everyone involved, imcluding the illegals. If Mexicans were faced with a secure border, we wouldn't have unfortunate peasants dying in the desert.
To: Huck
"Illegal aliens" is the proper term. However nowadays most people would assume it had something to do with outer space.

"Illegal Aliens" - calling them something else doesn't chnage what they are.

I like aliens better than immigrants. Just from a PR standpoint, it's nice to find a term that describes the infraction without appearing to stigmatize. I realize some folks want to be in your face about it. From a Dale Carnegie perspective, "illegal entrant" has value. That's my only point.

I think that it is too easy for opponents to tar attacks on illegal immigration as attacks on immigration. Fact is, illegal immigration is a misnomer. If you illegal enter the US, you are not an immigrant, legal or otherwise. So why not get rid of the term, take that weapon away from our opponents, and use illegal entrant. Who wants to be FOR illegal entry?

I think that it is too easy for opponents to tar attacks on illegal immigration as attacks on immigration. They use the race card. If you're not for immagration, you hate Mexicans. They spin the issue to collect poverty votes. "Now that you're here, vote Democrat if you want to eat".
On the contrary, if you're for "illegal entry", you're against homeland security and American citizens legal protections.
