If need be, bear false witness, since this sin is forgiveable with penance.

This comment really can't be allowed to stand unchallenged.

In the first place, committing a sin is no way to clean up the Church. In the second place, it's politically stupid to even raise such an idea, let alone do it. It would completely discredit the cause you advocate. In the third place, God will not be mocked. Committing a sin with the prior intention of confessing it later is a very serious abuse of God's grace and mercy. The Bible never defines the "sin against the Holy Spirit," which is unforgiveable, but this kind of thing certainly verges on such an act.

Yes, if you genuinely repent, any sin can be forgiven. But who can say that you will be able to genuinely repent such a premeditated sin?

Finally, such lies are hardly needful. The priest in question has been caught participating in the middle of a disgusting performance. The bishop needs to be pressed hard to discipline him.

Thank you for your thoughtful and considerate posting.
You are, of course, correct in your appraisal of my statement.
I placed my tongue in cheek in order to bring
into focus the primary problem of homosexuality in the church heirarchy.
You said it well,"...if you genuinely repent, any sin can be forgiven.
But who can say that you will be able to genuinely repent such a premeditated sin?"
What more premeditation of sin is there than a daily chosen lifestyle of homosexuality for a priest or the promotion of abomination?
