MONTGOMERY, Ala., Aug. 20 - They came streaming in from all directions, wearing their crosses and Confederate T-shirts, carrying dog-eared Bibles and bottles of water and enough power bars to last a siege. With a gap-toothed grin, Jay Bob Billy explained how he came here from East Piddlebrook:
"Dem truck won' start so wes check th'utha and dem truck run fine so we's came right down", said Mr. Billy pausing briefly to spit. "Wes saw dem tryin to move dem commandments stone so ah got my rifle but Joe Bob says no."
Mr. Billy's eyes started to move rapidly on each side of his crooked nose. His smile faded to a frown. "Whens dem try to move dem stars and bars we kicked dem damn n***** lovers right down dem stairs." Mr Billy flexed his mud-encrusted worked forward narrowly missing this reporter.
