Teens blame video game for shootings
WKRN, TN
There is an update on the teens accused of shooting innocent drivers along Interstate 40.
16-year-old William Buckner and his 13-year old stepbrother, Joshua, now claim the video game Grand Theft Auto inspired them to hide in the woods and shoot at cars driving down I-40. The boys say they never meant to hurt anyone, but they did. Two people were injured in the sniper-style shootings.

Just curious though... What parent in their right mind would let their kids play Grand Theft Auto? I'm a gamer, I play it (and other shooters), and I'm a father. But there's no way in the world I'd let my son play it or see me playing ANY of the violent games out there (we play sports games together). For me...as an adult...it's vicarious way to vent (playing shooters)...but for an impressionable youth...it's a nightmare!

In my community last month two video games were arrested and charged with shooting an SUV.

Their little 16 and 13 year old trigger fingers need to be broken so that next time they play a game they'll remember the difference between video and reality. Stupid little ba$tards.

Just more of "the devil made me do it" crap.
I don't know why we just don't take the word "responsibility" out of the dictionary,it has no meaning anymore.

This is SOOOO much BS.
The shooter video games will make the little ba$tards shoot people but actually
shooting things back in the day, my day at least, didn't make teens want to go out and shoot people.
What's up wit dat?

"For me...as an adult...it's vicarious way to vent (playing shooters)...but for an impressionable youth...it's a nightmare!" I played "shooters" when I was a kid. Hell I had a very realistic Uzi water pistol with a detachable "magazine"; yet never had the desire to hurt anyone. Youths can play "violent" videogames when they have learned to distinguish fantasy from reality.
The "we didn't know anyone would get hurt" bit is a load of horse hockey. These kids knew exactly what they were doing. Too many children these days (and when I was growing up) just don't know right from wrong.

I know the trend is to let childeren go out and iron that out on their own, but its time to get the cockamammy liberals to admit that piece of chimera is distructive to society.

I played ARmy, we went out with toy guns and "killed" each other on a regular basis, But I knew the difference between playing and reality. How can anyone point a real gun and shoot it at someone then later clain they had no desire to hurt anyone. I see a severe lack of parenting here.... No morality, no responsibility....

I remember when Street fighter came out. Level 2 or 3 had the guys beating up a girl gang. I thought at the time, that was just teaching little boys to hit girls. BADDDDDDD!!!!

Kids are not allowed to go play Army, Cops 'n' robbers or Cowboys 'n' Indians any more. They are shunted into activities perscribed by the feminist educational ministry. Their childhood fantasies are put off untill an older age. It is no wonder that nearly grown youths pull off stupid and childish acts. But you will never convict the modern educational process as being a part of the crime.

"Parents not teaching their children right vs. wrong should be charged with child abuse". I don't think that blanket statement covers the problem as well as you would like to think. I did some nasty things when I was growing up (1970's) and my parents didn't know about all of them. When I did get caught, the punishment usually included a belt and being grounded for weeks, plus a common sense talk where I pretended to listen intently to every word. My antics did'nt include sniping at subarus on interstate 81, but the point I'm trying to make is that even good parents don't have a crystal ball.

even good parents don't have a crystal ball. That's true, but at lest they are being good parents. A lot of kids arn't getting any direction at all just think of the disadvantage they are in.

Yeah, I guess things are worse today. Of coarse a lot of parents are afraid to give the correction thats called for-due to "social services" and the school situation you discribed. What a mess.

you guys seem the older version that the new today. You don't know what it is like to be a teenager these days. People didn't have as great of technology as we due today. Like for instance graphics and sound controls. Another thing, for those 2 boys that said they were under the idea of Grand Theft Auto and shot at cars and didn't mean to hurt anyone but did....they could be telling the truth. Today a lot of parents don't give a flying shit about their kids and don't know whats going on in their child's life. SO I blame the parents, not the kids, and not the game.
