I sure do remember Brian Kingman. He was one of Billy Martin's starting five during the "Era of Billy Ball" in Oakland. There was no quality pitching in the bullpen, so Billy let all of his starters pitch complete games - win or lose. Martin was roundly criticized in a feature article in Sports Illustrated for allowing five young pitchers, including Kingman, to blow their arms out and ruin their careers. I believe Mike Norris, Steve McCatty, Matt Keough, and Richmond native Rick Langford were the others.

Actually, the A's went 83-79 that year after having gone 54-108 the year before. And that was with pretty much the same team! In fact, the next year , if it hadnt been strike shortened, probably would have been one of their best ever ( they went 64-45 ).
In point of fact, Martin was a GREAT manager (even if it was only for short periods of time).
