[history]
On a drizzly morning, state Sen. Tom McClintock rolled his state-issued Dodge Intrepid into a parking lot behind a Sacramento radio station. He stepped out of the car alone -- "I've never believed in entourages," he later muttered -- and strolled into the building to start a day on the campaign trail.

McClintock Ping.
The entire second half of the article is spent demonizing him. Nothing like actually getting onto the media's radar, is there?

Quit bumping this troll's stuff to the top. He's the poster in the first 3 posts. He had to jump up and down to get attention.
Let it descend to the depths where it belongs.

The first half of the article is pretty good, though.
A lot of people don't realize just what a wunderkind Tom was.

I thought it was a pretty balanced article, pointing out the good stuff about Tom, but at the same time, not ignoring reality.

He said he supports -- but would not initiate -- laws banning late-term abortions and requiring parental consent for abortions. "Those are certainly laws I would approve if they were placed on my desk, but I expect to have my hands full reorganizing the state's bureaucracies and reforming our basic approach to public works," he said.
The folks supporting him specifically because he is pro-life will be very disappointed to hear this.

Sorry, I don't have a date for this, but
by William E. Saracino (contributes regularly to CPR Online):
The candidate portion of the same poll contained good news for state Sen. Tom McClintock. While exact numbers were not released, those familiar with the survey described the results as having McClintock within the margin of error of being tied for first with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cruz Bustamanate. Such a split would probably fall in the 25 percent range for each candidate. This would change everything. The "McClintock can't win" purveyors would be faced with the prospect of those who beleived that story dumping their former support for Schwarzenegger.
