I'm on the _other_ coast, but watching this one with great interest.
There is a question that California conservatives -- and California Republicans (for I sense these aren't one and the same) -- must start asking themselves, as this election is coming on fast.
That question is:
Who do I/we really want as governor? Davis or Bustamente?
Because, from where I sit, that looks like the _actual_ choice you may have to make. Either vote "yes" to retain Davis, or vote for the Republican candidate of your choice -- and _get_ Bustamente.
As unpalatable as that dilemma may be, you folks in California had better start grappling with it now, because it's a choice you _will_ have to make in October....
Cheers!

I don't think it is that simple any more. Bustamante is no longer saying "no on recall." His Mexican voters are going to vote for him, and for the recall - watch. A can of worms has been opened that cannot be closed. Democrats know how to game this thing, too. Davis will be recalled, and there is nothing to prevent it. The remaining question is who will replace him - and it isn't going to be McClintock or Ueberroth.
