Pardon the vanity post, but a quick question...
The American Conservative Union (ACU), Americans for Democratic Action (ADA), and several other organizations, conservative and liberal, publish annual ratings of the voting records of Senators and Representatives. Most FReepers, it's safe to say, are interested in getting as many high-ACU rating and low-ADA rating people into office as possible.
Do any of these these groups publish updates of voting records while Congress is in session? Some single-interest groups (pro- and anti-2nd Amendment groups, pro- and anti-life groups, etc.) keep up to date on their specific areas of interest, but I haven't seen any comprehensive ratings for 2003 so far. The situation is particularly frustrating when one is trying to figure out where new Senators and Representatives stand (e.g., Elizabeth Dole, who is not as conservative as Jesse Helms was, and not as liberal as a "RINO" by most reasonable definitions -- but exactly where she is, I confess I don't know).
These ratings, of course, are no substitute for deeper probing into the effectiveness of our Congresscritters, but they are a convenient starting point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
I could ask the Admin Monitor to change it to "I JUST HACKED UP MY GRANDMA WITH A MACHETE AND FED HER TO MY DOG!"
Or I could add a dancing banana...
Or a dancing purple banana...
Or...
Everyone knows that dancing peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are the REAL attention-getters.
