Comedian Chong Sentenced on Drug Charges

By DAN NEPHIN, Associated Press Writer

PITTSBURGH - Tommy Chong (news), who played one half of the dope-smoking duo in the Cheech and Chong movies, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison and fined $20,000 Thursday for selling bongs and other drug paraphernalia over the Internet.

The 65-year-old was allowed to remain free until federal prison officials tell him in a few weeks where he must report to prison.

Chong also forfeited about $100,000 for his arrest on federal drug paraphernalia charges. He'll spend a year on probation after he's released from prison.

His Nice Dreams Enterprises, which made a line of marijuana bongs and pipes, was to be sentenced later Thursday. Under federal law, the business itself can be placed on probation or face other sanctions.

"Note to Tommy - seek political asylum in a free country"
And where might THAT be?

Canada, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Denmark... all possibilities. There are many countries in the world where people are not incarcerated for selling pipes.

"He just made the guns....it was the owner who made them illegal by putting ammunition in em "

Unless things have changed, there are certain PARTS that can
convert a certain semi-automatic rifle into fully automatic.
Possession of these PARTS without a FFL is a felony. Nothing
to do with ammo. You don't even need to have the rest of the gun to be in violation.

In Georgia, one can buy "smoking accessories', but if you mention the word 'bong'or refer to a controlled substance while in the store they will ask you to leave. They can only be called waterpipes. Funny. Tobacco kills millions, but it's OK. (sorry to drift off topic)

The point of the prosecution is that under Federal law, all drug paraphenalia is strictly illegal and will land you in federal prison.

Do you find this to be consistent with the Tenth Amendment?

Back in 2001, while the FBI was busy dealing with a local whorehouse in New Orleans, al Qaeda was training its pilots and flying into skyscrapers in New York.

Way to go, FBI. I'm sure that the depleted uranium imported by ABC News producers was just an aberration of the tight security in our ports of entry.

Bong wrong? So long, Chong. (Not as good as "Stix Nix Hix Pix", but best I could do).

The late Senator Bill Spong (D-VA) once joked about co-sponsoring a bill with Senators from Hawaii and Louisiana to deal with illegal copying of U.S. records in the Far East. The legislation would have been called the Fong Long Spong Hong Kong Song Bill. Now, add a reference to Long Dong, the porn star Anita Hill accused Clarence Thomas of referring to, and Chong and Bong, and you may have something. But I could be wrong.

"Dave's not here, man."

Somebody posted the entire transcript of "Dave's not here" on FR once (I think it was last year). Could whoever it was do so again? I can't seem to find it.

Maybe the story is all wrong? Maybe Tommy Chong got nine bongs for having to watch Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger in "Nine Weeks"?

Nine bongs for nine brides?

What an absolutely humourless justice department. IMHO Ashcroft is right up there with Ed Meese. I'm not joining the dems on this one. I've thought Ashcroft was an inbred waspy little dick for about twenty now. He's a completely uninspiring little man who's parents eff'd up mighty big with some headgames.

Ashcroft plays the same old tired song over and over and over. He belongs in therapy, not heading justice.

The more questionable Ashcroft's actions are the more of a ruthless fig pucker he becomes. And the more he enjoys it too.

We have criminals running Wallstreet(which would have been our future instead of Social Security), witnesses against spies sitting in Brazillian jails for years to rot because someones too busy rescuing us from statues with breasts and Tommy Chong than to fill out the extradition request. We have an FBI draining lakes trying to find a pond that fits a theory. We have boardroom criminals scurrying about like free range rats. We have no more accounting firms to fire in order to make our books fit the audit. We have every brokerage firm known to man being prosecuted and sued for SEC violations, and settling BIG, but the money goes to Justice, not those swindled. We have millions of illegals hopping aboard like reverse lemmings and Gray Davis is busy giving them ID to use nationally.

But we got no more Tommy Chong to worry about! Tommy's obvious crime is that he did not contribute big to the RNC or Bush run. Had he payed the keepers, he'd be eating at the Whitehouse and not at the bighouse! I mean Bush honors Ozzy Osbourne, a foul mouthed heroin addict during a whitehouse event but incarcerates Tommy Chong?

I knew a guy who used such an argument with regards to his homemade machinegun business. He just made the guns....it was the owner who made them illegal by putting ammunition in em !

He had a point didn't he? A machine gun without ammo is just a fancy stick.

I feel so much safer, knowing that this dangerous threat to all Americans has been found guilty. More than anything else, if the law enforcement community has the time to go after someone selling "bongs," they must have plenty of free time on their hands. It's good to know that they've gotten all the other crimes completely under control. Things like murder, robbery, rapes, theft: It's so good to know that there's no more violent crime out there!

In order to continue an appropriations bill before next DEA budget is voted on, in order to vote on the bill, all congresscritters shall submit to urine, hair, blood, drug testing.

Let's extend that to every judge and prosecuter who hears any case involving drugs.

Well, at least the federal government is going to be sure that we're never threatened by ABC News importing depleated uranium again! I feel so much safer! It's like the multi-jurisdictional task force in the Kansas City area that's been going after prostitution! 32 LE agencies, working together to bust prostitutes and their clients... They advertised that there were 100 busts in one night... Later it came out that over 40 were strippers who got too close to their patrons... And they did get a deputy sherrif! But talk about a hugh waste of money!

Given that Tommy Chong was born in Canada...I think that may have the edge.

Yet another post-WOD American courthouse where the Constitution is used for toilet paper.

The federal drug laws are unconstitutional. Just as a federal alchohol prohibition required a constitutional amendment to be legit, so to did the federal narcotic prohibitions. And as we see post-prohibition, the states do a fine and constitutional job of maintaining a balance between the social ramifications of the use and the abuse of alchohol.
