I had heard that they plan to make the lights part of the final memorial. That would be fitting.

Re: They appear blue to me in the pictures. Is that just an illusion?

Good question. I'm not photographer, but I think the black background has something to do with them appearaing blue. The one picture that is shot from under the lights shows how white they really are.

Beautiful photos. I feel obligated to mention that it is definitely not this visible from the distance presence in the photos and clearly they are using a long exposure. It's also nice for real, kind of ghostly.

Someone told me tonight it is $10,000 a night. I just returned from seeing them. Saw them from Weehawkin. They didn't look at all blue to me, perfectly white. Very awesome and moving experience viewing them.

That's called color temperature. Have you noticed how some car headlights appear yellowish white and the newer hallogens seem blue? The eye detects a mild color shift, and that's even more exagerated in photography. Often times photographers will white ballance a shot to compensate for this effect.

Hey y'all, I just played hooky from work for about an hour and went up to the towers of light in person. Incredible - each of those little streaks of light is wide enough to wrap your arms around. It really is a memorial of appropriate grandeur. Wow.

Just beautiful. It would nicer to see the towers, though. I particularly like the ones shot from nearly under shooting skyward. Must look great from the air. I wonder if the creww of ISS could see it from their vantage spot. they have some specialized binoculars aboard and other camera. Would be neat to see. The guy with the camera cell phone has a good one. Look at the resolution on the screen. You can see the light shafts on it. NEVER FORGET!!!!!
