Contracts that Gov. Gray Davis' administration negotiated with politically powerful state employee unions to save money this year will jack up costs in the future, and Republican lawmakers said Thursday they might withhold support.

"It looks to us like the deals are pretty sweet," said Assembly Republican leader Dave Cox of Fair Oaks.

Public employee unions have been among the Democratic governor's biggest supporters, and......."They're crappy deals,"

The public employee unions of this state and others will eventually bankrupt the states or require federal intervention because the state legislatures will be powerless against the unions. Unfortunately, the Feds tend to destroy what they touch, in order to save it.

Since the union movement abandoned the private worker and went after a continous source of revenue, the public workers, California has declined in equal measure as the unions prospered.

I’ve known police contracts that vary all over the map. Firefighters typically have a gravy pension/health & welfare plan as it is. Most people would call it obscene.

But it’s a sweet job if you can stand waiting in line long enough to get it.

In a last-minute bill also related to government workers, public safety employees would be able to earn pensions equaling 100 percent of their salaries, an increase from the current 90 percent. The author of SB 53, Sen. Joe Dunn, D-Santa Ana,

It would be cheaper to pay government workers 50% of their salary not to work at all, and use the other 50% to contract the service privately.

A "retired" fireman in my neighborhood has more "adult toys" than his family can use. He and his wife have new Luxury SUV's. He claims he inherited money. We all know from where. The taxpayer.
