RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - A Saudi drug trafficker was beheaded Sunday, a Ministry of Interior statement said.

Dhaher bin Thamer al-Shimry was convicted of smuggling marijuana into the kingdom, the statement said.

Al-Shimry was beheaded in the eastern province of Hafr al-Baten, bringing the number of beheadings in the kingdom this year to 41, most of them drug traffickers. At least 49 people were beheaded last year.

This conservative Gulf country follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of drug trafficking, murder, rape and armed robbery are executed. Beheadings are carried out with a sword in public.

First of all, 'pot' is an ignorant dysphemism! as are "weed" and "dope" for what is an herb gifted by God in Gen 1:29 but expressly forbidden for a muslim. well we certinly found out that one use of marijauna was to supply a way for governments to excercise control over the populus. i.e. the war on drugs.

That wouldn't make a significant difference. Dealers now face an imminent threat of death from competitors or twitchy customers, yet they continue dealing, and when one dies or is arrested another springs up to take his place.
