No one's silencing dissenters. They own the soap box and control the public square. You are free to disagree in America.

"Their goal is to drive us out of Iraq before our work is done. They are mistaken, and they will fail. We will do what is necessary to win this victory in the war on terror." ~ Pres. Bush, 9/13SOD Rumsfeld keeps saying, "you're not listening" to members of the press. The press isn't listening. Every week the military leaders, the troops, the President - members of the administration keep repeating the same basic facts - and they are facts, not spin.
They will keep repeating the facts for us, not the press, imho. I don't think anyone in this administration expects this press to listen - or to value truth and report the facts.
Sometimes you can see a glimmer of playfulness when SOD Rumsfeld once more gets a really dopey, uninformed, lazy, unprofessional question from a reporter who should know better. A sense of humor helps these days. (^;

The Vice President sure cooled Russert's jet in that interview. Russert's looked like a scolded child when Mr.Cheney was finished with him. Bravo Mr. Vice President!

My life has not changed. Those things that happened in New York and Washington DC didn't happento me. What? That's like someone in '42 or '43 saying "That thing in Pearl Harbor didn't happen to me personally. ...My life's still the same -- I still shop, eat, sleep, sh/t, still have the same job, still married to the same wife, ....nothing's really changed."

I hope the reporters get THAT message, at least. (dopey, uninformed, lazy and unprofessional)

To the average american in 42 and 43 life had changed.
He the average citizen knew he was in a fight to the death.
There was rationing, and scarifice and the chance of serving.
But to the average american in 02 and 03, nothing is being asked of him.
Go to work pay your taxes, buy something new, but other than that nothing is asked of joe blow american.
If you don't fly, don't go to major sporting events, or have never been in NYC haven't been in DC in 20 years, then nothing really has changed for you.
Your hear the copperheads and press talking about something far far away, it doesn't affect you.
It is nothing but pictures on a babble box, so it is just entertainmnet.
Other than a passing word at the water cooler or what occurs here, nothing has changed in America.

"It changed the way we think of threats to the United States."It shouldn't have. The American people may have had an excuse to be complacent about terrorism before 9/11. Washington did not. There's absolutely no reason why they should not have been able to anticipate a threat like that.
Before Sept. 11, the vice president said, people tended to think of terrorist acts as "find the bad guy, put him in jail, case closed."
Really? We're actually supposed to believe that the CIA assumed these were all acts of ragtag groups with no state support or coordinated network? He doesn't give us much credit, does he?

I am way past 18. I am former LEO. I did SAR at GZ. No one is more supportive of our efforts than I. I have read both the patriot act and its little brother CAPPS. I find reason to distrust in both documents.

Iraq is now a staging area for our next battle. Syria. Agreed, the only question is when (although I'm fairly certain it'll happen before the election).

Watch for a build up of Marine capable ships in the Eastern Med.
Syria will get it from both the Iraq side and the Med side.
