"...whilst the Democratic party continues the same national party it was at that day." "...Why, they brought Fred Douglass to Freeport, when I was addressing a meeting there, in a carriage driven by the white owner, the negro sitting inside with the white lady and her daughter. (Shame.)" Stephen Douglas

Exactly the same today. Democrats trying to keep the Negroes down on the plantation, in their place.

My screen name extols the Republican Party, yours a flag carried by killers of U. S. troops. We're both so easy to predict.

The same could be said of Old Glory. Americans killed Americans - I don't think anyone wants that again.

What is the purpose of splitting the conservative voting base? Angering Southerners your critical comments is no way to win support for the GOP.

Please don't send FReepmail.

Your argument is with the United States Army, not with me.

It isn't Southerners we anger. It's traitors.

Too bad Booth (or some other hero) didn't send a bullet through his brain before the tyrant got in office.

The question was actually about southern conservatives, not traitors.

Too bad Lincoln didn't put a noose around the neck of Robert E. Lee after he betrayed his country, and after the war, Lincoln should have had a noose put around the neck of your ancestor for insurrection against the lawful government of the United States.

Ah, but Lincoln was too compassionate a man.

Do you know there isn't an iota of difference between what Benedict Arnold did and what Robert E. Lee did?

There's nothing conservative about trying to overthrow the government or killing U. S. troops.

If Southern conservatives consider the Civil War to have been unjust, then:

1. They cannot be Republicans.
2. They should not be Republicans.
3. It's time to ride them out of the Party.

Lincoln was a despotic tyrant and got exactly what he deserved. Had he lived and filled out his second term, he wouldn't have harmed one hair on Lee's head, just as the radical repubbies you worship were terrified of trying Davis and the other Confederate leaders. If you had half a brain you would know why but I don't think you are due that much credit.

Here's a hint....the Supreme Court didn't want Davis to plead his case before them because they knew he and his cause would be vindicated. They were right and the country has been screwed up ever since. Not that anyone cares, anymore....

Well, Lee was involved with a domestic insurrection, while Arnold defected to a foreign government. If Lee had been "the same," he would have jumped at Lincoln's offer of command and then used his position to ensure the defet of the Union. But Lee, unlike Arnold, was man of honor.

A lot of those who worship Lee are unaware of how opposed he was to secession.

"Lincoln was a despotic tyrant and got exactly what he deserved."

So, you even go so far as to justify murder. What a sick man you are. Well, more like snake you are.

"just as the radical repubbies you worship were terrified of trying Davis and the other Confederate leaders."

We put your little traitor in jail, but unfortunately, Lincoln was followed by a Southern sympathizer who aided and abetted your cruel, racist policies.

"If you had half a brain you would know why but I don't think you are due that much credit."

I'd rather have a half a brain than the none you have.

"because they knew he and his cause would be vindicated."

You mean the right for any American to walk outside tomorrow, secede, kill thousands of Americans, and then call it legal and just?

"They were right and the country has been screwed up ever since."

Yeah, we've been screwed up ever since we freed the slaves.

Question: what is your opinion of the institution of slavery? Tip: don't tell me it was "peculiar"

"Well, Lee was involved with a domestic insurrection, while Arnold defected to a foreign government."

From the British perspective, it was a "domestic insurrection."

"But Lee, unlike Arnold, was man of honor."

What man of honor uses the sword and presige given to him by the Federal Government to then turn and use it on his fellow countrymen?

"A lot of those who worship Lee are unaware of how opposed he was to secession."

I'm acquainted with your line of logic here, but unfortunately, many of Hitler's generals were opposed to Hitler's ideology. It isn't enough to excuse their failings, and it isn't enough to excuse Lee's.
