...make sure you get all your laundry, vacuuming, dishwashing, in other words, everything you need electricity for, by tomorrow evening. You need electricity for those things? I only thought you needed a husband..............................

That's it, MF. I'm mashing the abuse button as soon as this server unhangs.
Where the F from hell did you - and WHY - you inflict this photo on us?

Good luck to you up there!
I never begrudged the "wasted" sweat effort, and leftover sandbags, spent in preparation for a known hurricane, 72 hours out.
The only real damage I ever experienced was with a "no name" storm, that came up suddenly, and caught everyone asleep, and was too late to run from by the time it hit.
Hope everyone just goes through a practice drill with Isabel.Anyone who has ever lived through the real deal, always prays the weathermen are all wrong, and thanks God for answered prayers.

Tomorrow, and each passing day, it looks to bend further north. They're currently placing the track here locally through Western Pennsylvania northward into the Buffalo area.
If it goes more northerly up the coast into New Jersey they and New England would be looking at some major flooding and destruction. The winds will stay stronger if it takes that direction.

You are right. I grew up in the mountains of N.C. and have lived in Raleigh since 1966. I've learned about tornados, ice storms, and hurricanes, all first-hand. The latter was the most surprising. I figured that being 150 miles inland I would never see a hurricane up close. I have friends here who lived in Raleigh in 1954 for Hazel and I could not believe their stories until I had my own stories to tell... :-)
My Dad always said the mountains pretty much protected us and I found exactly what he was talking about!

Where are you at? I am near Irwin, and not really hearing alot about local effects yet...but, I was a kid when Agnes hit...and the flooding was incredible. We lost power (and we lived in Pitts.) for days.
To: Howlin
You're right. But I'm not going to be one of them.

The Weatherbug is cute, and free if you don't mind ads. I get a kick out of it when it makes cricket noises to let you know there's a warning. The first time it did that I was really confused. Gone off twice today.
I like having it set to the nearest weather station which is a local high school.

I have only been here since April of 2001; and I cannot agree with you more.
For some reason, I thought that moving from Greensboro to Raleigh was, like, a straight move, not realizing we were actually moving southeast! First of all, within days of moving here a tornado came across Creedmoor and when it came up on the TV, I had NO idea where I even lived!!!!
And whoever thought we'd have more snow than Boone does???
I've heard about Fran; I was here for the ice storm and I can tell you I DREAD this!

Anyone who knows...
My sister lives in a town fairly close to Charlottesville, VA (a little further East). I don't know how far inland a hurricane would be expected to travel. (We know Tornadoes very well, but have never experienced a hurricane.) What is the likelyhood of my sis and her family getting anything more than really wet and some downed branches? Should she be preparing more actively for this? (She got water, TP, and basics like canned goods.)

So much for either a hard right turn or a breakup. Looks like that eye's trying to reform, and the west side is looking way too healthy now.
