One of Osama's goals was to implicate the Saudis in the 9/11 attacks such that they would lose U.S. support and permit conditions to arise favorable for a Taliban-style takeover of Riyadh.

No doubt that the NY Times would love to aid and abet this goal, too.

You have seen the motive for this NYT article.

All the bashing of SA ignores the fact that the alternative would have the Taliban running SA to the detriment of the entire region.

I guess that involved getting the repugnant House of Saud to pony up tons of cash to bin laden, so that his terrorists would commit their mayhem and slaughter elsewhere. They raise money for terrorists and, until recently, openly funded the likes of al qaeda and the so-called palis who like to strap on bomb belts and blow up innocents. The Saudis can go to hell.

I disagree -- this is one of the few articles I've seen from the NY Times in a long time which appears to fit the facts.

I've traced 100s of Islamist websites -- official sites of dozens of terrorist entities on the official State Dept. list, Hamas, al-Qaeda, Islamic Jehad, the al-Qassam martyrs brigades, ... -- most are funded and owned by Saudis.

Sounds good to me. That would give us a swell pretext to take over. Perhaps we should restore Turkish control over the Muslim "holy places" and oil, as they used to have. I cringe when I watch "Lawrence of Arabia". Ever since the Arabs gained control/independence there has been nothing but trouble, with war, terror and oil shocks. the House of Saud-who are nothing but Arabian Corleones--must be brought down one way or the other.

This should be duly noted as we stop the dagnerous and bad things some Saudis are doing. We dont want to worsen things by polarizing the situation.

IMHO, the Bush admin is playing the balancing act about right, just so long as behind the scenes they are ripping the Saudis a noew one over this support to Hamas. Every country in the world needs to ban the Hamas "charities".
