Many years ago Chris Matthews--now famous on TV--hit on an interesting formulation: He said the Democrats were the "mommy party" and the Republicans the "daddy party." That is, the Democrats were "nurturers," concerned with health policy and day care. The Republicans were "protectors," taking care of national security and other manly matters. This notion is obviously galling to some. But Mr. Matthews was on to something, and we now find ourselves in a "daddy party" time.

My wife and I just moved. She is a life-long Republican and I have been one since March 1993 when Slick Willie gave us the largest tax increase in the history of the world. Yes, I had voted for significantly more Republicans than DemocRATS over the years, but I never bothered to become a Republican until 1993.

We recently moved and had to re-register. We both registered as "Unenrolled", that is, with no party affiliation because that allows us to vote in either primary here in Massachusetts. We both intend to go for the two-for-one special by voting in the DemocRAT primary in March 2004.

And for whom will we vote? We intend to vote for Al Sharpton. He's the biggest MOTHER in the race and the DemocRATS have been making us deal with him for years. Now it is our turn to make THEM deal with him. I hope he gets enough delegates to get significant facetime at the convention and maybe have to be promised some cabinet level office if the DemocRATS win the presidency or have him bolt the DemocRAT party.

And what is the other part of the two-for-one? I get to vote AGAINST Gigolo John a/k/a Ketchup Man at the same time.
