The Hispanic population is growing more than four times faster than the white population in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, just-released census figures show. The area's Asian and black populations also are expanding at a faster pace than whites, and so-called "minorities" already are the majority in Merced and San Joaquin counties.

I've been to third world countries and my heart breaks for poor people struggling to survive. But locally, our housing is priced completely out of sight, social services are strained to the breaking point, and some of our emergency rooms have closed because federal law requires hospitals with emergency rooms to treat anyone who requests it (whether they can pay or not). What's the solution?

This is an interesting situation. I started reading Pat Buchanon's book called the Death of the West a few nights ago. Now, I am no fan of his but he makes a point that Western populations are in decline as people are shunning marriage and childbirth. The average birthrate needed just to sustain a population is 2.1 per couple. We are falling below that. Meanwhile, population in Latin America, Asia and Africa is booming.

Pat blames things like feminism, popular culture changes, generational values and population retardents like abortion and birth control.

What's the solution?

In my opinion there is (sadly) no solution at this point. The process of Balkanization has gone too far and can only continue to worsen. As time moves forward the United States of America will continue to decline into a third world country as it is divided and conquered.

The mixed economy is morphing into a government controlled economy (socialist/communist) and the end result will be dictatorship and/or oligarchy.

To the victors go the spoils. . .

This is about the fourth or fifth article I've seen on FR today talking about the fast-growing Hispanic population, how Hispanics are now outnumbering every other group in this or that area, how schools and businesses have to adapt, etc. The Reconquista people were right when they talked about taking over America via immigration and birth rates. We are definitely going to be a Hispanic majority nation. It's only a matter of time. If you want to look into our future, check out Los Angeles.

It all boils down to assimilation vs isolation of immigrants. The emphasis needs to be on learning english, mainstreaming into dominant culture, and adopting the attitude that America is where you put your allegience. Not multiculturism, isolation into separate groups, and the denigration of the dominant culture.

Part of the problem too is that 42% of hispanic births are to unwed mothers. We're increasing our welfare population and future criminals at a very fast rate. Traditional US Catholic conservative hispanics are fast being replaced by a different type of immigrant moving in from Mexico which isn't very conservative or has much family values.

FITZ, you're right, (as usual!) The illegals flooding into my town do not resemble any real Catholic I ever knew. It astounds me when people say we should welcome illegals from Mexico because they are "good Catholics," "conservatives," "natural Republicans," and have "family values." People who say that are obviously in some ivory tower and have no idea what sorts of criminals, unwed mothers, gang members, welfare cheats, etc., etc. are now flooding across the border.

What's the solution?

Well for starters,

1) Deport all illegals, including those with supposed "anchor babies".
2) Eliminate welfare. Provide assistance to the poor through private charity.
3) Eliminate all ESL and bilingual programs in public schools.
4) Print all government documents in English only.
5) Provide day and night English classes for a nominal fee with the emphasis on being able to read and carry on simple conversations.

The color of the people's skin, or their ancestry, should be immaterial. People are right to be proud of their heritage, and other cultures greatly enrich the American experience, but it must remain an American exeprience that includes items we like and respect from other cultures. Not some idiocy of claiming all are equal - because they aren't. There are aspects of Mexican culture, for instance, that are undesirable - political corruption being a classic example.
