Gore joins Davis in California recall vote

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former Vice President Al Gore, whose contested defeat in the 2000 White House race has become a rallying cry for California Democrats, has joined Governor Gray Davis in urging rejection of the Republican-led campaign to oust him.

Gore's appearance with Davis at a voter-registration rally on Friday in a predominantly black neighborhood of south Los Angeles capped a week that also saw former President Bill Clinton spent two days campaigning with Davis to help the governor keep his job.

It also came as the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to reconsider its controversial decision to postpone the October 7 recall election.

A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit ruled earlier this week that the recall should be delayed until March because older, error-prone punch-card ballots still used in some counties would effectively disenfranchise some voters.

If the recall challenge reaches the U.S. Supreme Court, it would mark the first major test of the decision that halted the recount of Florida ballots in 2000, ending that bitterly contested race in a victory for George W. Bush.

The appeals panel that issued Monday's decision based it principally on the high court's precedent in Bush v. Gore.

Davis and his allies have portrayed the recall as a bid by Republicans to steal the gubernatorial race they could not win last year and as part of a larger Republican pattern of attempting to subvert the will of voters, starting with the disputed 2000 presidential contest.

Gore himself sounded that theme as he addressed a crowd of several hundred civic leaders, clergy members, union representatives, and school children.

"This is about a very large struggle in our country. It is a struggle over the future of self-government," Gore said. "The people who want to see this recall take place are disrespecting the majority of Californians who voted in the election last year."

Gore, introduced at the lectern by Davis as "a man who should have been president," did not mention by name any of the Republican candidates running to replace Davis. But he alluded to the campaign of the leading GOP contender, actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If Davis gets fired, he and Gore could start a law firm called Doofus & Doofus. My apologies if this has been posted, but a quick search didn't turn it up. Funny that Reuters is reporting this story from their Swiss bureau. . .

They are really bringing in the big guns...Clinton, Jackson, Gore, Kerry, Sharpton too probably. Next will be Carter...comparing the recall to the banana republic elections he has monitored!

Glad to see Albert's getting out more. It's better for his mental health than staying in all the time.

So that fat guy on the podium who looked like Gore really was Gore after all.

Davis received less than 50% of the vote, so the majority of the voters in 2002 did not vote for him (quite apart from those who could have voted but did not bother to vote).

Former Vice President Al Gore, who was thoroughly defeated in the elections of 2000, an election fraught with democratic fraud, has just given proof that Gray Davis has no new solutions to his disastrous governorship of California. Rather than really try to fix CA’s problems, the old gang is back to hang onto their turf and erroneous ways of governing. They are courting those whom they have hoodwinked and tricked in the past with lies; those whom they consider and all but say it are dumber than dumb. They speak from churches, making their claims of separation of state and church a mockery.

What is very clear is that if it looks like a democrat is going to loose an election, they change the rules as they did in New Jersey etc. Arizona successfully recalled two governors, however they were Republicans so that was not contested. Other states have recalled elected officials, but to hear and read about it, you would think California was alone in this effort and that it is wrong regardless that the California Constitution provides for this action.

Having all the old Clinton crowd in that state is cause for alarm only in for the democrats – it tells the country that it is the same ‘ol, same’, same 'ol political rhetoric and games – nothing new will happen if Gray Davis is allowed to remain governor and under him the state has an enormous possibility of going bankrupt; morally it is bankrupt. Mrs. Clinton, the opportunist, joined with the rest of the thread-bare democrats, a washed up Algore, a failed impeached president, the power hungry Mrs. Clinton and Jessie J. who would never miss an opportunity to mix with the deep pockets he extorts. Maxine is fanning the fires and trying to keep “her” people down on the plantation that has served her so well over the years.

Citizens of California, wake up, the usual crowd is determined to keep you from becoming part of the United States again. You are being used! The time has come to say Enough is Enough so you can retain your talented people who are moving to other states in droves to escape the taxes and dictator rule of the Democratic Party.

Looks like it's all about the Bush/Bore case...to infuriate Dems to a new frenzy. Bubba mentioned the SCOTUS ruling specifically and so did three DUMB (I mean Dem) judges.

>> "because older, error-prone punch-card ballots still used in some counties" <<

The press picks up a terminology, a formulation and flogs it into the ground.

This "error-prone punch-card" tag drives me crazy. All voting systems have errors. Different studies show different error rates. Usually voter error is lumped into machine or system error. Punch cards MAY have a slightly higher (a percent or less) record of voter errors. Different studies show different results.

Doofus & Doofus

I saw these two clowns on stage yesterday attempting to dance to James Brown, and it was one of the funniest and most pathetic exhibitions I've ever seen. Tony Snow and the rest of the panel on Special Report were lol. Two stiffer and more soul-less people would be impossible to imagine.

I saw the clip too. Even with two black attendees stationed on either side of him, holding his hands in theirs and helping him, Davis still couldn't find the rhythm.

I agree, totally pathetic. Even more pathetic if black people beleive these pandering clowns have their interests at heart because they try to "dance like black people." How insulting. They are complete phonys who care for nothing but their own power.

If anyone doubts the stupidity of Al Gore, remember what he said:
"I invented the internet!"

Mr. Gore, can you please be more stupid!

Take a look at why these politicians try to get elected and STAY elected. Please forgive me if I've posted this before. In my opinion, this is nothing less than GRAND LARCENY. If you agree, please pass it on. I am surprised at how many people are unaware that this GOVERNING ELITE is making out like bandits. Bill and Hillary never had it so good and don’t want to give any of it up! Send a copy of this to your elected and to those running for office - get the word out

SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth the read. It's short and to the point.)

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:

2004 Election Issue
This must be an issue in "04." Please! Keep it going.

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congress men & women do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this: When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die, except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $00.00. Nada. Zilch. This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds-our tax dollars at work!

>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer) --we can expect to get an average $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000. monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us ... then sit back and watch how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?
You never know...enough people just might get off their dead butts and start changing things...........!

Gore said "when the people vote in an election, it should be afforded the respect that's due." The same applys when people don't vote in an election it should be afforded the respect that's due. Instead of the demo's deciding for themselves how the people would have voted if'n the people had wanted to vote.
