Ready to move? Free State Project will announce the chosen state on October 1
Free State Project ^ | Sep., 03 | Free State Project

The ballots have been mailed to Free State Project participants - and the voting result will be announced on October 1.

The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to a single state of the U.S., where they may work within the political system to reduce the size and scope of government. The success of the Free State Project would likely entail reductions in burdensome taxation and regulation, reforms in state and local law, an end to federal mandates, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world.

But when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. I haven't had my skis out of storage but three times since I got here in Memphis back in '96.

I suggest you turn them in for water skis, solve the entire problem, and forget the damn snow.

Water skis? I never heard tell of such a thing! Where in heck do the ski poles go????

Besides, you know what W.C. Fields said about that water stuff....

You didn't read very carefully.

A cut off of 1.3 million residents was set early. This was based on the mathematics of the project. 20,000 people will have more impact in a state of 500,000 like Wyoming than in one of 2,000,000 like Nevada.

Basically it failed the population cut. That, and not the drug laws disqualified it.

Again, Texas is one of the most populous states. Tens of millions of residents. 20,000 liberty minded people would have ZIP in effect.

Us porcupines got thick fur. And the chilly weather should help keep away some of the riff-raff.

Really? Don't seem to help the porcupines in places like Detroit in winter.....

Detroit strikes me as a place with some considerable riff-raff problems of its own, though maybe not as bad as in neighboring Lansing.

But Eminem and Michael Moore both come to mind. What is it with the duplicate initials thereabouts, just coincidence, or something nasty in the local water?

Let's just say we're not going real far out of our way to recruit people who consider climate more important than freedom. I'm glad to see this natural weeding out process taking place.

Our ancestors faced disembowelment, hanging and freezing to *death* so they could fight the British over the Stamp Tax!

But all *we're* going to do is move and participate in the process those anceastors helped give us. Doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice to me, and I'm not planning to listen very closely to anyone who whines about it.

I did not write that. That paragraph was written by Joe Hadenuf in post #43. Do know that italics in FR threads mean that I am responding to that particular part of the post?

New Hampshire was chosen.

About 1,000 people opted out of N.H. but in half a month we've gained back over half those losses and are back up to ~5K members already.

I did some regression analysis on membership growth and it appears to be approximately 8.4%/mo.

At this rate we should hit 20K in around 17 months (March 2005, though the official estimates are late 2005/early 2006).
