Bands Rock Against Bush

Concerts and tours to raise awareness about 2004 election

Sonic Youth, the Donnas, the Liars, the Locust and Erase Errata are among the groups who have pledged their support for Bands Against Bush, a self-explanatory new artistic collective dedicated to lending its support to the "struggle against a world of perpetual fear and violence bolstered by the Bush administration." BAB has set up more than twenty regional chapters in the U.S. and abroad, with a directory of groups willing to participate in various events to raise voter awareness. Among the events planned is an October 11th international day of action, with concerts planned for New York City; Olympia, Washington; Seattle; Los Angeles; Boston; Washington, D.C.; Portland, Oregon; Paris, France; and Dublin, Ireland. The day of action will be preceded by a Rock Against Reagan Memorial show on October 9th.

On the recording front, Green Day, NOFX, Good Charlotte and others will contribute songs to Rock Against Bush, a compilation to raise political awareness prior to next year's presidential election. The set is due next year and will be augmented by a tour organized by NOFX frontman Fat Mike.

And Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello is planning to hit the road with fellow politically minded musicians Billy Bragg and Steve Earle on the Tell Us the Truth Tour this fall. The jaunt is being timed to coincide with campaigning for the 2004 election.

How fitting that one of the bands listed is "The Liars"....(most have been named in honor of Bill and Hillary).....this band should be booked for DNC fund raisers.

Morello is the former guitarist from Rage Against the Machine. A band so radical, they fought amonst themselves to determine which was the better communinst.

Move on, nothing more to see here.....

Most of their fans would go to vote against Bush and push the wrong lever....our side would get at least half the votes..."the stoned effect".

I found that they have a website

It looks like more agitprop from the Anarchists with a capital A.

Their mission statement says that they are an international group. What about that ban on foreign contributions in election? Oh, that's right, Anarchists don't obey laws because they oppose our constitutional form of government...

Bands Against Bush Mission Statement

Bands Against Bush is an international movement which uses music and art and the support systems of these activities for protest and political involvement. We oppose the Bush administration and its domestic and foreign policies.

Our goals include encouraging debate and dialogue in a climate that is becoming increasingly hostile to dissent. We will use the resources we have cultivated as artists to share information, inspiration, and ideas. These include fanzines, bands, venues, record labels, concerts, radio stations, touring networks, the internet, libraries, college campuses, galleries, movie theaters, and any other means available. With these tools we can struggle against a world of perpetual fear and violence bolstered by the Bush administration, as well as collectively resist the weight of our individual apathy.

We hope to bring people together through outreach, trust, and inclusion. We want a more peaceful, just, and equitable word and see the Bush administration in opposition to these goals. Bands Against Bush welcomes all members who share our goals and wish to connect with others. In order to reflect the more equitable world we hope to create, we must be inclusive of women, queers, and transgendered people and the racial and class diversity of our communities.

By our commitment to being inclusive we encourage diversity within our organizing group and public events as well as the possibility of sharing information and resources, and learning from and collaborating with other groups with similar goals. Bands Against Bush strives to create an atmosphere of exchange and learning across social, economic and racial divides

Feel free to adapt this mission statement for your own use

Any organization that allows the mission statement to be "adapted" means that it doesn't have firm (or honest) convictions.

Ah yes, Tom Morello of "Rage Against My Daddy's Trust Fund' fame.

Is this the best groups of bands they can come up with?

I did like some of these band but will avoid them in the future because they're morons.

They offer no real solutions to any problem, just their vapid message that they hate President Bush. Who does that help.

These people have apparently already forgotten 9-11, and think that by putting our heads in the sand, the terrorists will go away. They are clueless about the determination, capability, and staying power of the terrorists.

Our goals include encouraging debate and dialogue in a climate that is becoming increasingly hostile to dissent.

So let me see if I get this...

Mike Moore denouncing the President on national TV, and got an award basically for lying and creating a piece of anti-Republican propaganda.

According to the Noble committee itself, they gave an award to Carter for attacking the President.

Most of the Dem candidates are going around the nation denouncing the President.

The majority of the media, including the NYT, CNN, and Reuters spend much of their time attacking the president.

And now a bunch of bad, but popular bands, are going around attacking the President.

How the hell is this a climate hostile to dissent??? This isn't like the Clinton years when the IRS would audit you if you spoke out against Clinton, and the White House had domestic enemy files.

These fools are so eager to lap up every bit of propaganda the leftist media can feed them it is disgusting. Just another example of showing one's "individuality" by doing what you perceive everyone else to be doing. Only this time, as opposed to dyeing your hair green or getting a piercing, its fighting *for* Islamism and Fascism.
