Saddam's torture CDs go on sale
By Patrick Bishop in Baghdad
(Filed: 24/09/2003)
The home movies of the family of Saddam Hussein, including grisly scenes of torture, are proving a best-seller on the streets of Baghdad.
Some of the images show the dictator in a paternal role, smiling fondly at his brood and dandling their offspring on his knee.
But the kitsch sequences are interspersed with dark recordings of torture sessions and executions. In one, Saddam's son Uday is seen lashing the soles of the feet of a soldier with a rubber pipe as his victim screams with pain and begs for mercy. Eventually he hands the whip to a senior officer to continue the punishment. There is little doubt of its authenticity.
The footage is believed to have been shot by cameramen who were on hand to record Saddam and his family during the 23 years of his rule. They started selling their wares to Arab television stations and are now striking deals with entrepreneurs who transfer the images on to CDs for sale by street hawkers and at markets.
The discs are on offer in the Thieves' Market in central Baghdad. "They are very popular at the moment," said a teenager manning one of the stalls. "People buy them because they want to know what really went on. It is one thing to hear about it and another to see it."
The CDs are an unexpected boon for the coalition, reminding Iraqis of the brutality of the old regime.

Not that I am a sick bast*rd, but I think maybe we need those CD's over here, to remind everyone what a BEAST that Saddam guy was, and help put things in perspective.

Hello Freepers, can we chip in and buy a copy for Kofi Annan, Chirac, Howard Dean et al? For all other purposes these tapes should be destroyed, but those people should see what they defended.

"maybe we need those CD's over here, to remind everyone what a BEAST that Saddam guy was, and help put things in perspective."It might also help put things in perspective to show Americans what America's enemies would like to do to them.
In the bright California sun and their luxury filled kitchens, it's easy for comfort-loving Americans to believe that such sadism and violence do not really exist--comfort-loving "Liberal" Americans, that is; the rest of us need no reminder.

Or of Chinese political prisoners being shot in the back of the head, then dissected for black market body parts. Oh, Wal Mart would never allow that into the country.

Other people in need of a copy: Al Sharpton, all Democrat Presidential contenders, every editor of every liberal newspaper and the "Big Three" TV news teleprompt readers.
Hillary shouldn't get one lest she get ideas.

There are some scenes on the Internet - somebody posted a link on FR. Nasty stuff - Quesay whipping some poor soldiers' feet to a chorus of screams. He seemed to be smiling. Very nasty stuff indeed.

eBay is probably already discussing the pros and cons of letting them go on sale.
My bet is they won't let them get sold, or at least only with a hell of a lot of restrictions such as age registration.

You can buy "The faces of death " dvd/video`s on Ebay right now. Their not even in the adult section. If they don`t object to these, why would they care about any saddam torture videos?
