As I have said numerous times, unless you're one of those Christians who thinks it's your purpose to prosselytize the world, Islam is not the enemy; Islamism is. Militancy of any type is our enemy -- militant Islamism, militant Hinduism, militant secularism. But to impugn any religion by the actions of its militants is unrealistic, unfair, and intolerant. What we must do is help to create an environment where sensible Islamic people can make their voices heard. These kinds of militants no more represent Islam than people who commit acts of violence in the name of Christianity represent Christianity.

Where British Military Memorial Should Be Erected In Baku?

20/09/2003 12:59

Baku Today

Representatives of some political parties and public organizations have appealed to Andrew Tucker, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan, in connection with erection of British military memorial on the Alley of Shehids. The authors are opposed to erection of the memorial to British soldiers, which in 1918 fought on the Armenian side "against Azerbaijani population of Baku and Turkish troops."

Aydyn Balayev, candidate of historical sciences, employee of National Academy's Archaeology Institute, said there are two viewpoints on this issue. From pure humanitarian viewpoint, erection of the monument is a widespread practice throughout the world. But why the memorial should erected on the Alley of Shehids, where Karabakh war victims have been buried? In this context, it would have been wrong to erect British military memorial on the Alley of Martyrs, said Balayev.

He said almost 1,000 British military headed by General Denstervile arrived in Baku at the invitation of Central Caspian government on August 4, 1918. General decided to sail from Baku on September 1, but authorities did not offer him such an opportunity promising to take down the ship with soldiers aboard.

British military did not take part in the September events and some of them died during the period from August to September. They were buried in the British garden near Arts Museum and the stele with British soldiers' names could be erected there, said Balayev.

"Alley of Shehids (Martyrs)" So the Turkish genocide of the Armenians was a jihad after all.

Why do they hate us? Buchanan says it's all because of our support for Israel.

Is this vandalism related to that conflict? Is the attempt on Popes life related to the Pope placing his soldiers on the Saudi soil </ sarcasm>?

The failure to modernize made Mussulmans impotent, which in turn produced hatred of all things Western. This vandalism shows that quite well.
