I have often said that the two people who have most profoundly impacted my thinking on economics are Milton Friedman and Adam Smith. At Christmas I sometimes annoy some of my more liberal Hollywood friends by sending them a gift of Mr. Friedman's classic economic primer, "Free to Choose." What I learned from Messrs. Friedman and Smith is a lesson that every political leader should never forget: that when the heavy fist of government becomes too overbearing and intrusive, it stifles the unlimited wealth creation process of a free people operating under a free enterprise system.

"Free To Choose" economics. If you think Arnold still sounds like a liberal, think again. We need to restore the luster of the Golden State. And win one for The Gipper - with the Coming Of The Taxerminator on Oct. 7th!

Looks good to me. California conservatives must be humble. Must not boot their best chance to start digging out of the pit. If Arnold succeeds he creates a climate for more conservatives to elected, fewer Democrats. He also makes it easier for GWBush to win California is 2004.

The No Child Left Behind Act's requirements are opposed by teachers' unions. Arnold wants to expand public school choice and give local parents and teachers the freedom to manage their kids' education, not Sacramento bureaucrats. Hey Ted Kennedy wrote this bill and now liberals find it too hard to swallow? Let me tell ya, this law has been two years on the books and now the Left is saying its too harsh and there's not enough money. I agree with Arnold 100% we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Our schools will have to find a way to do more with existing revenue. Ditto for all the other government programs.

He can talk about Milton Freidman in broad terms until he's blue. It's what he proposes to DO that scares me.

You think he doesn't have his own mind? Arnold's a social libertarian. Live and let live on the personal stuff like Californians are and conservative on economics. It doesn't drive conservatives crazy for him but he's about the best that can be elected in a place like this. I mean on the stuff conservatives are concerned with, it seems to me I find it hard to disagree with anything he's written here. And if we insist on putting in someone we agree with 100% but who'll lose, California will keep on bleeding to death. Like Hugh Hewitt wrote elsewhere, if I have to make a choice, I'll take a Governor I agree with half the time to a Governor I agree with none of the time.

I know about his enviro policy. I'll grant him some leeway as long as he leaves my wallet well enough alone. That's all that matters. I don't expect to agree with him 100% on everything.

Arnold is no social libertarian. He believes in racial classification by the State. Explain what libertarian principles are upheld by this practice.

Just amazing what you folks will swallow for the sake of "victory"...

I think he's wrong on Prop. 54. No it doesn't square with libertarian principles. Then again I have yet to meet a politician who is for something controversial and to be fair to Arnold, the Republicans opposed 209 when it was on the ballot here and they opposed the measure abolishing bilingual ed. The public is way ahead on this stuff and its more like the public leads and the politicians follow. So yeah he's a flawed choice in a fallen world but you think he's not where we want him to be, hey Large Breasts is your man.

My thoughts exactly! Sounds like he is lifting remarks from McClint's points and the critizism of Conservatives. A Conservative he will NEVER make ..... neither will his bevy of advisors.
