ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Citing concerns about Gov. James E. McGreevey's handling of casino taxes this summer, the city's largest union has endorsed the three Republican candidates running for legislative office in the 2nd District.
"Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union has thrown its support behind the campaigns of state Sen. Bill Gormley, Assemblyman Frank Blee and Assemblyman Kirk Conover.
"The incumbents are being challenged by Democratic Senate hopeful Tom Swift and Assembly candidates Steve Swift and Alisa Cooper in November's election.
"
Local 54 endorsed McGreevey during his 2001 campaign for governor, but union President Robert McDevitt said his members were disappointed by the increased taxes levied on the casino industry this year. The larger taxes have been blamed in part for 300 layoffs at the Trump properties last month.
"
McDevitt said changes to casino taxes can have devastating consequences for his union's membership, including a loss of jobs. He said he believes Republican control of the state Senate is needed to prevent further tax increases from being adopted

McG is trying to force MUCH higher taxes on the casino owners. The workers know that will mean layoffs.
McGreevy's polls are dropping about as fast as Davis' did.

You are right, it is nothing new. You will never convince the bashers of that.
I was a union member for most of my adult life and from personal observation I would say that MOST union members are conservative in their beliefs, they just don't generally vote that way.
Does this make them "sheeple"? No, they are coming to believe that the union leaders are often union misleaders. We will see more and more of the union leadership coming around to reflecting what their members believe because after all they are elected officials and have to answer to the membership.

That was before they were invaded by communists.
In fact, the Hollywood unions were invaded, and Reagan slept with a .38, after union threats on his family. They threatened to throw acid in his face (the communist unions).
Reagan hated unions after that.
As do I.

RR was a democrat a long time ago. When he fought the communists in the hollywood unions, he became convinced that demotrats got corrupted. That was more than 50 years ago. He converted to republican.
RR ran against the unions. Remember, socailist thug?

Ever read, "Reagan's War?"
He fought the unions in hollywood. And won. It led to the blacklist. McCarthy and Kennedy supported it, in congress.
McCarthy and Kennedy were best buddies, remember?

I appologize for the socialist thug comment. It was uncalled for. You did not deserve that, and furthermore you frankly handled it well.
Again, I appologize. I get passionate sometimes.

"I appologize for the socialist thug comment. It was uncalled for. You did not deserve that, and furthermore you frankly handled it well".
No problem whatsoever. in 35 years as a conservative union member I got called a lot worse than that by some of my more liberal peers.
My beliefs were the same as a lot of union members though and that was reflected in the fact that they elected me to represent them not once but many times.I always told the truth and didn't and couldn't keep my mouth shut at times when it would have been prudent to do so.
I sincerly believe that most union members have conservative values. The job is to convince them to vote the way they believe. I tried and I hope I was at least a little successful.
I only found this site a few months ago and knew I had found a home. I am not about to let a little mud slinging drive me out of my new home. I am a "Teflon" freeper and F.R. is stuck with me!
