Matt Houston, a 19-year-old sophomore, called the group's price list offensive.

"My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students," said Houston, who is black. "They were arguing that affirmative action was solely based on race. It's not based on race. It's based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization."

Sounds like it's based on race to me...

People who recieve favoritism are alway's going to percieve things differently than the one's having to pay for it. It's blatantly biased against whites but it doesn't seem to matter, so much for equal rights.

Why, Matt. They were just trying to build a diverse bake sale community. What's the problem? You need to have a snack and relax.

Great stunt indeed.

Reminds me of smoking cigars outside the Student Union on Great American Smoke-Out Day in November.

yeah, it was about a clueless black guy who went around solving crimes by making inaccurate observations about social situations.

The posting of the original DMN article about the incident included this nugget:

""I felt they were attempting to make Hispanics and blacks feel inferior. We jumped over the same hoops to get there.""

...... and you didn't have to pay full price for the cookies either...

i.e. "Achieving diversity of race isn't based on race, it's based on diversity." The sad thing is, five of the most repected legal minds in the country actually bought that argument.

I'm just so sure the ACLU is mounting a free speech lawsuit in support of this group (although can't hold my breath that long. lol).

" It's not based on race. It's based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization."

... and therefore the brothers were so righteously angry that they "confronted" those holding the sale, causing the University to shut it down because it was creating an unsafe situation.

"This was not an issue about free speech," Tim Moore, director of the SMU student center, said in a story for Thursday's edition of The Dallas Morning News. "It was really an issue where we had a hostile environment being created."

It would only be about free speech if the cookies were shaped like gay men or a cruicifix dipped in urine. Then, the campus police would be called out to protect the Liberals selling the cookies, and anyone who objected would be denounced as a small-minded Christian bigot.

Also note that THEY, the Liberal Intelligencia, get to determine the definition of "hostile environment." It is always the Libs who determine who is the opressed, and who is the opressor...

The group sold three cookies during its protest, raising $1.50.

Hmmm... they must have sold the three cookies to Hispanics, given their rates.

An enterprising black student would have snapped up the whole table of cookies at 25 cents apiece, and then quickly set up his own table to sell to everyone at 50 cents apiece. Much more profitable to pounce on an "opportunity" than to whine about a "hostile situation".

As when, oh say..... one person has more required of him/her than another of different race/gender in order to qualify for the same (public funded) benefit? Hmmmmm.

So you're thinking that the director of the Student Center (a glorified cafeteria manager) is a member of 'the Liberal Intelligencia'?

Translation- if enough members of aggrieved groups get together and start shouting, they'll get their way.

Who created the hostile environment Mr. moore? The students having the bake sale, or the people yelling at them and potentially threatening a riot?
