How could there have possibly been so many deaths? Was this deaths during the heat wave, or deaths due to the heat wave? Good thing they didn't send troops to Iraq.

These doctors can't rotate their vacations? What a bunch of selfish pigs.

Good you are so well-informed about the French culture and systems. Thanks for enlightening us all.

Proportionately that would be about 75,000 Americans.

I'm surprised Chirac didn't blame Bush for these deaths.

Environmental experts warn that because of climate change, such heat waves are expected to increase in number in coming years, meaning Europe Oh right, that ol' circular argument that United States killed all those old people in Europe because we alledgedly caused global warming. Well sure, it's all on us...

Can you imagine the hue and cry if that did happen here? It would all be blamed on President Bush. How come nobody is screeching to impeach Chirac?!
To: bedolido
This is proof positive. The French are as dumb as doornails.

How could there have possibly been so many deaths? Yeah there's some kind of nonsense going on here. It gets over 100 degrees in many parts of the world such as Africa and people deal with it...

Yep. If France thought there was global warming shouldn't they have made provisions of their own to take care of their people??? Maybe it's easier to blame the USA for everything than take responsibility for themselves.....

The "pragmatic" French government probably is happy to save all that money that would have had to be spent on medical care and government old age pensions.

You're welcome. I do it because I care. Now we have the French using their culture as an excuse not to keep an adequate number of doctors on call to be prepared for a medical emergency.
When hurricane Isabel hit the East Coast, I didn't here anyone claiming they had to have their vacations and therefore couldn't return to duty and help.

This is still hard for me to believe that so many people could die from heat.
