Target store chain void of common decency (ACTION ALERT)
AFA.net ^ | 9/25/03 | Don Wildmon

Posted on 09/25/2003 1:34:39 PM PDT by truthandlife

Would you believe Target has approved its Marshall Field's stores to sell a product called FCUK? Target must consider parents really naive to not know exactly what type of message they are "targeting" to our kids.

Here's how one mother put it:

I didn't see this on television but it was an advertisement insert in last Sunday's newspaper for Marshall Field's dept. store for a cologne and a clothing line aimed at teenagers called "Fcuk" and their advertising slogan to go with it is "scent to bed". I was really appalled at this and then a friend of mine saw huge posters promoting this IN the Marshall Field's store in my area. When she complained to a clerk about it she was referred to a manager who told her the corporate office makes all the decisions about what they advertise. Another mother put it this way:

Not only does the name make an obvious grab at the mind to be misspelled as one of the vilest slang words ever used, it also goes further to make its point. A young, attractive, half dressed couple are snuggling on a bed with the words "scent to bed" superimposed over their picture. On the inside where you can pull the flyer apart to see what the product smells like you read "open here to try fcuk her" and "open here to try fcuk him". On the back page is an offer to "get your scent to bed t-shirt". For a major retailer to promote and sell this type of product is reprehensible to me. I hope it is to you too! I think we need to pull out all the stops to let Target know they have crossed the line with our families.

ACTION NEEDED Will you join me by making an extra effort in contacting the Target corporation by taking action? We already know the Target will block emails sent through the AFA Action Alert system, so your extra effort is greatly appreciated!

Call Target's toll-free number and let them know how disgusted you are with their decision to sell FCUK products through their Marshall Field's stores. Their toll free number is 1-800-440-0680, extension 1.

Here's a note: You will be told that you are calling Target, not Marshall Field's. Don't be fooled by their attempt to discourage you. Target is responsible for Marshall Field's decision to sell their nasty product!

In addition, they may ask for your mailing address. We recommend not giving that information. By doing so, your home might become a target for receiving a promotional mail out for the product.

See my reply at about 114 or so, please.

It's a fine academic discussion about libertarian values and so on, until some loudmouth creep is sitting ten feet away in an IHOP facing your 7 year old daughter with a hat that says

FCUK

on it in 3" tall letters.

Then what do you do? Tell your daughter a lie when she is trying to pronounce it and asking you what it means, and if it's "that bad word?"

Or do you slink away like a beaten dog, leaving the restaurant without eating, and surrendering the cultural battlefields to the degenerate creeps who "flash" children with obscenities?

I can't see warning people as a threat to anyone's freedom. He can't MAKE people stop shopping there. We all, hopefully, have minds of our own. Those who want to will and those who don't, won't. I think it's a good thing to let folks know what's going on. We, then, are at least informed and can make informed decisions.

If they are targeted, they asked for it.

It was old in NYC last year. Here's one to watch...

All the young brothers and Spanish kids in the boros have finally gotten smart about forking over big $$$ for labels. The new style is mid-thigh to knee length plain white logo-less t-shirts over whatever else they've got on. They go for 3/$10 in the "urban" shopping drags like the Ave in Queens or Fordham Rd. in the Bronx. No more Rockafeller, SJ, etc logos to be seen.

Coming to a suburban white mall near you next spring.

I actually got angry myself on Newberry Street in Boston when I saw where French Connection stores were doing this...two years ago.

My wife has not bought from them since and she used to.

That is way over the top.

I imagine some twirly headed little UK cakeboy dreaming up that gem while squirming in his seat at the creative table....with no clue.

"When their objective is to restrain free speech or free trade, I do."

A boycott is a form of free speech. If you are in favor of free speech, then whether you agree on the issue or not, you should be supporting the right of people to organize and boycott.

That's nothing new. When I was in middle school, there was a shirt that had the brand name. Fuct. I also remember Co-ed Naked, and Big Johnson T-shirts.

It's been around for years. Big deal. This isn't anything like a planned parenthood thing.

A brick through their large plate glass window with a tag that reads "Don't fcuk with my children!" might be called for.

I am guessing you don't have a 7 year old daughter who is a good reader and very inquisitive, that you take to malls and restaurants.

We'll fight this cultural war, or we'll lose America to the pierce-faced tattoo-necked nihilists who want to turn our kids into sex toys before they are even teenagers.

We don't have a FC store here but a number of folks carry their line...and I hear people complaining about it often. It has to hurt sales.

I hear more rumbling about this in stores than I do A&F and their semi-nude late teens stuff. I think the FCUK thing just jumps out more.

Field's used to be family run....then they would have loathed this type of publicity.

Personally, I would never buy that hat or wear a shirt like that, but I'm no longer 18 years old either.

That said, I'll admit I have a knee-jerk reaction to anything from the national AFA when they have at previous times called for people to go to the feds to complain about things and invoke censorship. If it's strictly the free market solution, I don't have a problem with it.

Unfortunalty, it's a catch 22. On one hand is what you are describing. The other hand is AOL where guns are considered porn, and they have removed pro-2a websites that were previously on their server. I'm sure you're book is considered 'porn' to them.

That's why I'm tilted so far in the other direction on it. If the controversial things I'm personally against are eliminate, sooner or later the ones I support will be eliminated.

"I drilled him with "killer eyes" for ten minutes, he was oblivious. Long story, lots of twists, but in the end I loudly called him a degenerate jerk in front of half of the IHOP and he took it off, and I narrowly avoided going to jail for assault."

Yeah that was better for your kids to see than the letters FCUK. /s

did y'all know it is advertized in "Seventeen" magazine, with the text "Scent To Bed" and a photo of a semi-undressed and seemingly underage couple semirecumbant?
I saw this in a mag in the office and went ballistic.
Of course, they might say "well, it is called FCUK because the company is 'French Connection' and they are based in the UK" or some such, but I am not buying it.
I am no prude, but pushing this stuff in teen mags is intolerable.

Nobody is carrying a shotgun into IHOP and waving it around, so I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Imagine you have an innocent yet inquisitive 7 year old, and you want to give that child a childhood, and not have her turned into a slut just by seeing filth and obscenities everywhere, including in IHOP after church.

What would YOU do? Explain "FCUK" to your 7 year old daughter? Smile?

It's a (culture) war my friend. The 2A is but one battlefront.

So what's your answer to "flashers" flashing obscenities at 7 year old girls in IHOP?

Roll ever and do NOTHING? Allow it? Accept it meekly?

Sorry, we're in a culture war, and I'm going to fight back. I'm not going to hand the battlefield over to the perverts who want to sexualize children.

Maybe you don't care, that's YOUR problem.

I do care.

FURTHERMORE: It is good for my children to see that their dad is not a jelly-spined sheeple like most of the bleaters who do nothing, while the pervs and perv-enablers attempt to sexualize their young children, even in "family restaurants" on Sunday morning.

I guess you wouldn't mind if some degenerate creep lurked by your young kids wearing an explicit "12 sexual positions" T-shirt in a mall. Dad got loud and chased that creep out too.

If filthy degenerate chickenhawks have a first amendment right to lurk near my children with sexual messages on their outerwear, then I certainly have a first amendment right to call them degenerate jerks to their faces.

If we can't hold the line and push them back here with FCUK, in two years it will just be F*CK spelled out, in public, everywhere.

Liberals say they are doing everything "for the children," but they do nothing while the chickenhawks attempt to sexualize the children of America.

It's sick, and it's got to stop.
