McClintock for President

I was impressed last night, too... his values and stubborness would make him an incredible Senator and he'd be an asset to the whole country :-)

Jim Robinson also specifically said in a post, that he would never let Bustamante win.

His approach seems rational: he would prefer McClintock, but when the chips are down, he is not going to throw his vote away and allow Bustamante to win.

The people some of us have a great deal of difficulty understanding are those who say that even if their vote would be the one, which would give California to Bustamante , they would still vote for McClintock, and that they would rather see Bustamante, than a Republican in the governor's office. Frankly I have a real problem how people can call themselves conservatives, who would knowingly elect and prefer a leftist racist like Bustamante.

The intentions don't count, you know where the road paved with good intentions leads, the results counts.

This election is about electing the next governor of CA, not about showing solidarity, which may result in someone getting elected who will destroy CA.

Anybody who posts on FreeRepublic who still endorses McClintock doesn't belong here, in my opinion.

Are you sure you don't want to rethink that one?

Your opinion is of no value. You've been flacking for the ARNOLD RINO MAN since day one. Keep it up.

(YAWN ...)

Takes one to know one, I guess.

He's winning quite handily now. So, yes, I will.

I count strela a better conservative than one who would rather see a hard-leftie in control of California instead of a moderate Republican.

Jim Robinson has been known to effectivly speak for himself. I suggest you ping him (as per the unwritten protocol) if you want to invoke his views....I suspect he will ignore this third grade cat fight...

you wrote: "If Arnold is elected and then officially switches parties (and I see no reason why he wouldn't)"

Please, there are plenty of reasons why he wouldn't, and, no doubt, some of them will be posted by the time I get through writing this.

But the central problem is that there is a vast distinction between conservatism and the Republican Party.

conservatism is a political philosophy (actually three overlapping philosophies, but that's a different story).
Its goal is to get its views adopted.

The republican party is a coalition of various groups, many of which have elements of the three conservatist philosphies. Its goal is to elect republicans.

BIG DIFFERENCE! So, we have a conflict, exemplified quite well at present with the Tom/Arnold divide. Does one vote for the conservative who has but a small chance of getting elected, or does one vote for the republican who has a significant chance of getting elected???

The conflict for the doctrinaire conservative is that the Republican Party is not completely conservative, but has conservative elements.

different Freepers come down on different sides on the Tom/Arnold issue, because some will only vote for a "true" conservative, while others will vote for the Republican because that will help advance conservative views at least incrementally.

Ding. Give that poster the Kewpie doll. There is an ocean's worth of difference between supporting a particular candidate and threatening to vote for the Rat if your candidate isn't doing well.

Jim R. or anyone else is welcome to support McClintock if they want to. Its when a (mercifully) few threaten to vote for somebody whose policies they know will destroy conservatism in California for the foreseeable future that I take umbrage. And, as I have repeatedly, clearly said in other posts, the scorched-earther McWampum supporters who have said publicly that they will vote for Bustamante (or cause their vote to accrue to him by default) are the ones who do not belong on FreeRepublic.

Don't mind Roscoe - he's just taking stuff out of context again.

Did you notice that Roscoe conveniently failed to include Jim on this discussion about him? Of course, this is not the first time that Roscoe has discussed other posters behind their back without pinging them (another unwritten protocol), so this is nothing new.
