Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held today (Friday, Sept. 26) for the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the first museum dedicated to telling the stories of the U.S. Marines.

It's a shame my father, a very proud Marine, didn't live long enough to visit this. He served in the Korean conflict and nearly lost his feet to the cold temperatures there. They wanted to amputate his feet, but he flat out refused. He suffered severe foot pain during the remainder of his life, sometimes having to crawl because the pain was unbearable later in his life.

He was a very successful man after his Marine Military service. Something I believe the "Marine's can do spirit" inspired within him. He went on to become a Regional Sales Manager of the Southeastern United States and all of South America. For an American company he helped build from the ground up. Our Family was especially proud of his accomplishments.

He passed away on Memorial Day, 2001, a fitting day for a really Proud and beloved Marine father to pass away. We really miss him.

Your father sounds like a truly fine man. The Marines seem to build those kind.
