Davis: "Stoic Man amid Recall Storm". WashPost

Broder, the so-called "dean" of Washington journalists, focuses on Davis' personality as the source of his problems. Interestingly, he traces the problem to Davis's growing up as "the oldest child of an abusive, alcoholic father".
But some political insiders believe that growing up as the oldest child of an alcoholic father had scarred Davis's personality in ways that have been politically costly. They say that the emotional coldness, distrust of others, avoidance of conflict and relentless self-discipline displayed by Davis are characteristic of adult children of alcoholics.
These are exactly the opposite of the characteristics the press said resulted from Clinton's childhood experiences. Emotional coldness (Clinton is overly emotional). Distrust of others (OK maybe that one applies). Avoidance of conflict (If there is no conflict, Clinton will create it...he thrives on it.) Self-discipline (Ha Ha Ha!).

Don't these reporters ever read what they've written in the last 10 years?

Yeah, fine, let's accept all this psychobabble as true. If it is, he needs to find a space to work out his problems where the process does not screw up the lives of everyone in California.

LOVE ME, LOVE ME, LOVE ME, I'M A VICTIM!
Broder should be recalled too. This is the stupidest thing I've read in a week and a half.

"Stoic" in this instance means that Davis couldn't buy himself a personality.

You hit the nail on the head.
Whatever the libs have to do to turn their candidate into a victim, that's what they'll do...mindlessly. It's pitiful that they think this attracts voters. Broder has been disappointing me for about 5 years now. Time for pasture.

Failed Recall Election Candidate Solidifies Support
California's absentee balloting continues for the 21st day today. One candidate is still urging his supporters to cast votes for him even though polls show that he can only expect to recieve little more than 1/8th of the total votes. Saturday, Bustamante made the unusual move of praising one of the Republican contenders. Bustamante talked up McClintock, who has been taking votes from Schwarzenegger and could spoil the actor's chances if Davis were recalled -- thus allowing Bustamante a chance to win.
"The one who's really been moving in this race has been Tom McClintock," Bustamante said at a campaign stop in Los Angeles. "Tom has done a good job to get up there. ... Tom has a really strong message, and there's a group of people out there who strongly believe in his values." LINK
Atta boy Tom, that stand on principle resonates more clearly with each passing day.

Poor Gov. Davis, he seems so lost!

McClintock's eyes seem to perpetually reflect that someone just goosed him.

Broder is a degenerate twerp. Let us all please remember his famous editorial when Rostenkowski was indicted in the House Bank scandal: "Don't be too tough on Rosti."
He is a pompous self satisfied DemocRAT assh**e.

You can always count on legerdemain from liberals, and Broder is true to form. When the Big Implosion finally becomes impossible to ignore, look to stoicism or childhood complaints. Never simply blame incompetence and failed liberal policies.

There's a difference between stoic and being caught in the headlights.
Great points made by Timeout
No, liberals don't have to look back. When you're fueled entirely by feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelings there is no yesterday or tomorrow.

Iv'e noticed a new trend in PR
painting the perp as the victim...but when this perp is also a public figure aka politican -instead being portrayed as the victim- perp he now becomes a "stoic" victim-perp..
The tragic hero...in pain... yet enduring the pain with a kind of nobility...and even pinanche
I noticed it in that goofy Dakotan former Governor Congressman who through his carelessness and arogance killed a nice man a real hero (Vietnam Vet) who had the misfortune to be sharing the same road with this moron and his auto...(he ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed..the same one he had run once before)
Thoughout the whole interview the former Gov. and congressman kept repeating that he was in great pain...but "it wasnt so bad"...and that "he would heal" and then repeating the same ole claim about "his" pain...and "his" experience
Not once did he break down and talk about the pain of his victim or the victim's family or remorse over what he had done...(of course he wishes to escape the consequences)
It was all about the perp..and his pain...his torment...his overcoming...
Instead like Davis he wants to "Paint a Picture" of the lonely misunderstood "Trooper" soldiering on inspite of all the psychological battles within...blah blah blah...
Hey Davis- You Are Not A Hero-the only thing that matters is "what you do" and "facing up" to "consequences of your actions" and "being accountable" for them to others...
Perps Are Not Heros
This Madison Ave paint a picture crap...is just that ...imo
