Halle Berry, the daughter of a Caucasian mother and an African American father, would be counted as mixed race by the U.S. census. But the Oscar-winning actress would be counted as African American at the University of California.
And if she applied to California State University, Berry would have to choose between the two races or be listed as "declined to state."

"The county's 4-H clubs, whose members range from 5 to 18 years old, are obligated to seek an ethnic makeup approximating that of their local public school, records show. Sandy Parker, an official of the Desert Wranglers 4-H Club, likened such requirements to a racial quota system."
Why? Why are they required to do this? All that should be required is that they turn no child away who wants to join.
And btw, can anyone tell my what the 4 Hs are? I've always wondered.

Like you (I'm sure), I am deeply moved by this post. Sob. Sniff. Regrettably (more sobbing and sniffing), I have already vote Yes on 54.

This from the article:
By contrast, each applicant to UC will be counted as only one race no matter how many boxes are marked -- and the university will decide which race. Spokeswoman Lavonne Luquis said applicants who check multiple boxes are classified in whichever has the smallest student population.
Says it all. And why we must vote YES on Proposition 54. One drop rule, segregation, no choice for the individual is exactly what Lavonne Luquis supports, obviously. Humans are blobs to simply move around in order to provide incomes for those who know how and wish to manipulate monies and law with regard to the content of one's skin color and ancestry. Character be damned, in their books. Why don't they just say "how can blobs of malleable tissue" have thoughts independent of the Establishment?

This article is wrong. The measure is not fueled by citizens being upset that various agencies can't agree on how to racialy classify its citizens. It is fueled by disgust at the entire concept and practice of racial classification being used at all. It is a practice worthy of aparteid South Africa, and it is the law in California, and the rest of the USA. It needs to be completely abolished for all time.
Let "the content of our character" be the measure of the man.
