[history]
Despite calls from California Republicans for him to drop out of the governor's race, some say he has a future as a conservative leader.
Even as more California conservative leaders publicly call on him to clear the way for Arnold Schwarzenegger, state Sen. Tom McClintock has gained a national following.
Little known outside the state until now, McClintock has struck a chord with the right wing of the Republican Party nationwide with his frank presentation of his point of view anti-tax, anti-big government, anti-abortion, anti-gun control, anti-illegal immigration, anti-gay marriage.

Haha. How obvious can the LA Times make it that they want you to vote for McClintock over Arnold? (They may be Communist, but they're not stupid.)

"....it ain't over until the fat lady sings!!!!!!!!! "True, but I think the "fat lady" has sung and some of us are a little delayed in picking up the sound of her voice. Mc Clintock is already out of the picture. There are many in denial. (denial is curable)
You may 'time-capsule' these remarks and stick them in my face should they prove wrong.
See ya then.

"California Republicans want to win. They're sick of losing. They think a 75% friend is better than a 100% enemy," Pitney said. How about a 70 percent friend? 50%? 25%?
(We've already established what they are, now we're just haggling over the price.)

The Los Angeles Times has said more nice things about McClintalk than they have the last four Republican presidents and three Republican governors of California.
Since he's the the right of all of them, and the Los Angeles Times is an unabashedly leftist propaganda sheet for anything left of Barney Frank, what gives, if not a focused effort to take down Schwarzenegger's numbers and ease in Bustamante or save Gray Davis?
It's strange to see the McClintalk camp, the Los Angeles Times, the indian gaming supporters of Bustamante, the Democrat party, Cruz Bustamante and Gray Davis all working for the same goal here. Get Shorty Schwarzenegger!
To: GrandMoM
At least it ain't more tribal gaming money. Weird thing that they're spending almost as much on McClintock as they are on Busty.

The LA Times keeps running pro-McClintock "the real conservative in this race" articles while running articles about Arnold's Nazi father. It's so obvious.

One overnight poll commissioned by a Democratic-leaning union -- one of the state's biggest -- had it this way:
-- Schwarzenegger at 31 percent.
-- Bustamante at 24 percent.
-- Tom McClintock at 15 percent.
-- Peter Camejo at 4 percent.
-- Arianna Huffington at 3 percent.
And 23 percent were still undecided or voting for one of the other 130 people on the ballot.
In other words -- Arnold is No. 1, even with rival Republican McClintock staying in the race.

Not to mention that Busty and Torres are complimenting and cheering McClintock on. They're SUPPOSED to be rivals.

The LA Times keeps running pro-McClintock "the real conservative in this race" articles while running articles about Arnold's Nazi father. It's so obvious. It really is hilarious.
This race has been hilarious to watch. I'm in the odd position of not really wanting Arnold to win (although I do) as much as I want the McClintock crowd to lose. (Usually in elections it's that I want the Democrats to lose more than I like the Republican candidate. Not in this extremely odd race though.)
Check the latest Gallup Poll: http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/28/recall.poll/index.html
Arnold's got this one in the bag. Man, he has schooled these McNaderites so badly it's really hilarious. Once again, their political ineptitude shows itself clearly.

Please consider the source. These rosey polls feed an agenda, nothing more.
To: Publius Aelius
Then again, if Arnold drops out of the race and his supporters simply don't vote or vote no on the recall and leave the rest blank to keep Davis....then the recall would have been for absolutely nothing. An exercise in futility.
And while McClintock MIGHT run in the next election, voters may not have forgiven him.
"What ifs" are nothing but fantasy.

I nearly choked when I read Bustamante's glowing comments about Tom's principled conservatism (whihc DoughtyOne posted on another thread). Never has a Republican been so roundly endorsed by Liberals against whom they are running.
Busta's quotes deserve a thread of their own.

Please be careful about buying into any poll that shows Democrats pulling 25% of the vote. Core constitutancies make it almost impossible to obtain that level of destruction of the Democrat's base.
Let's look back less than twelve months to last November when every top state public office was given to the Democrats. Is anyone really going to entertain the thought the the Democrats have gone from taking every top spot in the state, to being unable to pull more than 25% in this recall for the backup candidate?
I seriously doubt these polls.
