[history]
This isn't a subterfuge to siphon votes from Arnold Schwarzenegger, although some readers might see it that way.
My goal is to dispel the myth of hijacked elections and put responsibility for what happens Oct. 7 where it belongs -- in the hands of California voters.

"Someone needs to stick up for Tom McClintock's decision to stay in the recall election and it might as well be me,
a registered voter whose views often are miles to the left of the conservative state senator."
====
Well, that takes care of his motives. All the leftists are singing the praises of McClintock and want to keep him in the race, while the Republican leadership is urging unity behind Arnold. Does that clue in anyone?

"I've heard so many tales about hijacked elections, it makes me wonder why the FBI isn't looking for a mysterious, one-armed man who pulls a gun and makes people vote for Ross Perot, Ralph Nader or Susan George."
LOL, the writer's got a point.

Salute to Tom. Everytime I turn on the tv and I receive via satellite. I see a movie of Termite the Terminator. Someone should be gripping about the showing of his movies 24/7 as free advertising during this period of time. I'm so sick of seeing him. I'm ready to puke!

Putting it another way, Republican leaders don't trust Republican voters to figure out what's best for their party. What a great idea! Let's run several candidates for every office!

So when the Republican, and other voters, 'figure it out' and vote Arnold into office, is there any downside for Tom running for future statewide office?

Telling sentence here:
"By attracting 19% of the vote in the 1992 presidential race, Perot supposedly allowed Bill Clinton to knock off George Bush the Elder."

is there any downside for Tom running for future statewide office? As the leader of a fratricide movement against his own party, Tom won't be electable to dog catcher.

I agree.
He killed it.
I lost my admoration for him when I learned of his taking money from outside sovreign nations.
Even if into an account he has no direct conrol over he could have kicked it back or said he was not happy or in support of or in cahoots with...
But he didn't instead even his campaign mgr was thrilled with the monies saying in the SAC BEE:
McClintock campaign manager John Stoos said Wednesday that he did not know about the Morongo ads but said he welcomes the help from the tribes.
"We need all the help we can get," he said.
he is done politically.

I suppose you think that he DID allow Clinton to win?
Then you must think that all the votes for Perot would have been cast for Bush then? How many Demorats voted for Perot? How many people who would not have even voted would have stayed home, voted for Perot?
Bush did run one of the worst campaigns ever and lied to the American people (Read my Lips). Clinton ran a race just like Arnold is running and with the same personal values. And with your help.
I think that the Perot factor is BS

It's all about voter accountability, not hijacking theories from Spin-Control Central. The political center votes for the man and not the party.. That is just a way of saying the center does not vote on ideology.
The left and the rigth do. They vote for Ideology no matter who wins or who loses. They vote on principle ... not for pragmatic reasons. It just blows my mind that people try to use pragmatic reasons to get right wing people to vote their way. It does not work.
Ideological reasons don't work on the center either. How many times have you heard independents say, "I vote for the man not the party." And how many right and left wing members are one issue voters.
Arnie if elected will have won with mostly centrist and democrats on the right side of the Democratic party and Republicans from the left side of the party.
That means that ARnie will govern much like Davis. He will have to walk the center to slightly leftist line.
We are going to get a Gray Davis style administration no matter if Davis or Arnie wins. If Bustamante wins we get to take a sharp turn left.
The real options for an outcome of the recall are, same as now or worse. Those are the two options and the voters will pick one of them

I firmly believe your "sky is falling" view of the recall is baloney and sour grapes, but I guess we will just have to wait and see, cuz Tom is out of it, and Davis is toast.
Not that I always would disagree with you... but on this... Big Time.
