[history]
No less than Hollywood, politics loves a sequel. If customers were willing to lay out $38 million for "The Terminator," chances are good that you have a ready-made audience for "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." If Ronald Reagan, actor and conservative, was the most successful politician in a half century, why not take a chance on "Ronald Reagan 2: Running Man"?

But every time I look at him, I keep seeing Gray Davis. Seems pointless to trade one unprincipled opportunist for another.

I have read the Bee (McClatchy papers) all my life since I grew up in the Fresno area. The have no credibility at all and generally do nothing more than parrot the latest Demonrat party line. If they had an article that the sun was going to come up the next morning I would fact check them before believing a word they printed.

Arnie is a liberal and Davis is a liberal.
Reagan is a conservative and McClintock is a conservative.
This choice should be real easy. Some folks are bound and determined to make life more difficult then it already is.

Listening to Nixon, I said to my friend, "What party is he?"
My friend said, "He's a Republican."
And I said, "Then I am a Republican!"
I have been a Republican ever since. I handed out leaflets for Republicans. I went door-to-door for Republicans. I couldn't wait to become a citizen so I could vote Republican. I gave money to Republicans. And now I am running for governor as a Republican.
What I saw in Austria made me anti-communist. What I saw in California made me a free-enterprise, fiscally conservative Republican. Republican principles are what built California into the Golden State.
I came to America 35 years ago as an immigrant. By working playing by the rules, my immigrant dreams came true. I want other peoplhard and e to have the same chances, the same opportunities. I am a Republican because of what Ronald Reagan said government bureaucrats can never substitute for millions of individuals working night and day to make their dreams come true.
That's what being a Republican means.
Let me tell you what being a conservative means to me.
I'm a conservative because I believe communism is evil and free enterprise is good.
I'm a conservative because Milton Friedman is right and Karl Marx was wrong.
I'm a conservative because I believe the government serves the people; the people don't serve the government.
I'm a conservative because I believe in balanced budgets, not budget deficits.
I'm a conservative because I believe the money that people earn is their money not the governments money.
And when you look at this driver's license outrage, I'm a conservative because I believe in the rule of law not in political pandering.
The driver's license issue is not about race; it's about law.
It's about a fair playing field. It's about living by the rules.
That's why people come to this country because our laws mean something.
As governor, I promise you our laws will mean something.
So here is what this immigrant, Republican Governor will do on his first day in office. I will take this Davis Drivers license law and I will terminate it!
Ill go to the legislature for repeal. And if they refuse to act swiftly, I will take my case to the people and we will overturn it ourselves!
From Arnold's speech at the Republican Convention.

Sadly, you're right. It is politics, the politics of triangulation, and this process will result in a shift from Davis to Buatamove. California is not ready to actually change their liberal ways just the fall guys. Why anyone any conservative would want to continuing living in California or Florida is a mystery!

Cannon recounts how, in the decades before he ran for governor, Reagan developed and tested the mix of cultural conservatism and individualism that would become so familiar to Americans. And because he had convictions, Reagan was free to govern in a pragmatic way. This goes to the heart of the misunderstanding AS supporters have about how the real world works.
When you put 'pragmatism' first you are left with nothing to negotiate with.
When you put principle first the people give you the flexibility to be pragmatic when the circumstances warrant.
The compromisers in the GOP give all their chips to the opposition before the game even starts. Always.

I am just amazed that people feel that Arnold proved himself by winning a food fight with an obnoxious woman.

All or nothing, in politics, means that the AoNers will ALWAYS get
N-O-T-H-I-N-G !
The GOP, belive it or not, is NOT a political party run by, supported by, solely for Conservatives.
McClintock has shown that he holds a grudge, isn't true to his word, may be a nominal Conservative, whose views most of us agree with; however, he is NOT " leadership " quality, has NO charisma, and, I venture to say, would NOT get anything much done, if he were ( an impossibilty ! ) elected governor.
Reagan and Arnold, both garner support from almost every segment of the populace. Tom doesn't.
Reagan and Arnold are both GOPers. Tom isn't a " party " guy.
Arnold IS electable, Tom isn't and has virtually cut his own throat, politically.
Yes, the choice is REAL easy ... either you want to get at least " some " of your desires met, enlarge the GOP voting base, help get W re-elected, or, like Tom, you are craven, don't care if you wind up with NOTHING you may want, and don't give a damn if you get a whole lot of exactly what you do NOT want...into perpetuity.
