Guess what's waiting to be signed on Gov. Davis' desk...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Even though Gov. Gray Davis refuses to play favorites in the NBA Kings-Lakers rivalry, the Sacramento Kings are taking a late stance on the recall. The basketball organization made a sizeable donation to help defeat the effort.
On public record, the Kings' Arco Arena limited partnership -- led by Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof -- donated $100,000 to Davis' anti-recall campaign just two days ago. It is a big-money donation that some, including the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, are calling a blatant attempt to buy Davis' signature.
"Follow the money. Follow the money," said Howard Jarvis spokesman John Coupal.
At issue is an unsigned bill sitting on Davis' desk that could significantly benefit the Maloofs if signed. Assembly Bill 944 would make it possible for the Maloofs to build a new downtown arena along the Sacramento city rail yard with taxpayer money but without a public vote.
"It certainly gives the appearance of a pay-for-play, that a campaign contribution is directly tied to pending legislation on the governor's desk," Coupal said.
Neither Kings administrators nor the Maloofs returned repeated phone calls from KCRA-TV. But the governor's campaign office called the accusations of pay-for-play "Ridiculous. There is absolutely no connection between contributions and policy decisions. The governor makes decisions based on what's best for all Californians."
City officials also deflected criticism, saying they knew nothing of the contribution. Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo's chief of staff Chuck Dalldorf said, "You have to ask the Maloofs why they donated the money. This has no relation to the city at all. I don't know anything about why they did it."
Davis' press office said the governor has not yet signed AB 944, nor has he made a decision yet on whether or not he will support it.

Can you say...*special interest*?
It is my sincere hope that Davis will indeed be fired October 7. He's sliming all sorts of ditties through his office before he's out of a job.

I've heard that some Hollywood actors marry to hide their gay lifestyles. I wonder if the same could be true for some in the political world...namely Davis.

Another reason to hate the Kings.

I was thinking it might be a martial law order, seizing the results of the recall election before being tabulated.

Davis is such a joke. I think the man needs some testostrone injections. You mean something to "pump him up"? I think the girly-man will get a dose of Ahnold steroids soon!

The Kings currently play at Arco Arena, north of Sacto, with I-5 being the main corridor of traffic. I don't get why ANY city that is old as Sacto would even discuss trying to have a major arena downtown with the accompanying traffic. Some of the events at Arco start early enough to bring people into the arena before the close of business in a normal day.
I thought the Maloof's had more integrity than this. I can never be a Kings supporter again. Shame on them. The odor that follows Davis with his pandering now has a spillover onto the brothers Maloof.

"Ridiculous. There is absolutely no connection between contributions and policy decisions. The governor makes decisions based on what's best for all Californians." Well, I guess that settles it.... move along, nothing to see here folks.

If Davis looses on Oct 7th is the new governor sworn in on Oct 8th? What is the time frame for Davis to clear out his office and the new Gov to move in?

Signing this bill will doom Davis forever and absolutely insure a victory for Arnold.

You'd think it would be illegal for a Govt. offical (or any organization seeking to promote that offical) to accept money on a quid pro quo...
