"Most public school peers of this young lady wouldn't even understand what she said in this paragraph. Proving once again, that homeschooled kids are significantly more adept in language skills. I think it is safe to say that most graduates of public high school today cannot speak, write, read, or comprehend correct standard English.
"

The word "some" appears to be missing in two places here. There are kids who receive an excellent education in home school settings. There are kids who receive an excellent education in the public schools as well. Our local high school has 6 National Merit Semi-finalists. It is far from safe to say that the graduates from this particular school cannot read, write, or understand standard English. It is also far from safe to say that all home-schooled kids are competent.

The operant word should be "some."

There are folks who do an excellent job of home-schooling. There are others who do an abysmal job. There are excellent public schools. There are lousy public schools.

This is a very good point. I have had the occassional person approach me with an experience of dealing with a poorly homeschooled child (in their opinion, for what that is worth) and they are so against it because of it that they can't see that the majority of children that are homeschooled are receiving an excellent education! My best friend was one of them!

I believe that there are excellent public schools...great and commited to what they do. My local public school is supposedly excellent and is used by realtors in order to get people to buy a house in this school district.

But it is irrelevant to me.

I homeschool because I want to. Because I personally believe that the main part of a my children's life should be under the direct instruction of my husband, or myself. For us, it is purely a personal decision that we are thankful we have the freedom to choose.

Now, after typing all this...I hope I didn't make a typo! LOL

While there are "some" students who survive the government schools to arrive with good skills, I can't get past the public school proclivities to indoctrinate rather than educate. On balance, it's a failed experiment - one that I'm not willing to subject my children to.
