What I would like to know is how can people, who are clearly rooting for a loss for the Republican party call themselves Republican, and act as if they were the "true" Republicans. I never figured out how knowingly working for a Dem victory makes one a "true Republican".

They are the "true republicans" that dream of a social club instead of a politcal party.

The aren't " True Republicans " nor any type of of one. They aren't Conservatives either. These are the people who delusionally imagine that GOP losses " teach the party a lesson " and actually enjoy being miserable. They're the DOG IN THE MANGER/ ALL OR NOTHING CROWD , who are happiest, when they and everyone else is miserable beyond endurance.
