CBS Says McNabb Tops 'Overrated' List

CBS Says McNabb Tops 'Overrated' List

Will the thought police force CBS off the air along with Rush Limbaugh? They'll try if they have any consistency at all, which, of course, they don't.

An alert reader today sent us a most fascinating column written by CBS SportsLine.com senior writer Pete Prisco back on Sept. 18.

McNabb was the choice as the most overrated player before his Stink at the Linc on Sunday. McNabb was awful in the Eagles' 31-10 loss to the Patriots, which dropped the Eagles to a surprising 0-2 heading into their bye week.

McNabb is still a good player, despite his pedestrian numbers from the first two games. He's just not a great one.

And that's why he earns the Most Overrated Player Award.

On most player ranking lists heading into the season, McNabb was ranked in the top 15-20 players. One had him as the third-best overall, and he is often considered one of the top three or four quarterbacks.

That's wrong and wrong.

McNabb has never been an accurate passer, doesn't seem comfortable in the pocket and has a tendency to make bad decisions. That is not how you earn high grades as a quarterback. ...

And that's why he's the most-overrated player, something he was getting even if he hadn't smelled up the place Sunday.

Oh my. Will Dan Rather invent a little scandal out of this? What's the frequency, Kenneth?

But was this previously "LEAKED" by an undercover sports group as a payback? "Inquiring minds want to know"

ESPN lists McNabb as the only qualifying (meaning at least 14 pass
attempts per team games played) QB who is completing less than 50% of his
passes.

Rush is being vindicated for his comments from a number of sources - even from a liberal sports journalist.

The only thing this story left out was the fact that McNabb is a black quarterback but that would be a racist comment...oops

Exactly, and that is coming from an extremely leftist network to boot!

The question is - who/why is McNabb so overrated? Much like the deal with black coaches in the NFL - the media (and the left in general) so wants black men to succeed in positions they have not traditionally held.

McNab is like someone once said about Randall Cunningham: "...one of those few players so talented and so erratic that they have a knack for keeping both teams in the game."

The media's behavior this week is in essence proving Rush was indeed right.

All over the radio, television, internet and print the last several days, the vast majority of the media have been falling over themselves to gush praise on Mcnabb and slam Rush.

With a few exceptions, the love fest for Donovan Mcnabb has reached nauseating proportions. I can't count how many times I have heard or read recently "There is no question that Donovan Mcnabb is one of the NFL's top quarterbacks". These same analysts and opinionators, don't seem willing to back up these statements with any numbers however. They couch their fawning praise with intangibles like "Mcnabb is a leader who brought his team to the NFC East championship" or "Mcnabb has solid Pro Bowl credentials".

As the Slate article pointed out, Brad Johnson's stats are better or comparable to Mcnabb's (e.g. QB rating - Johnson 84.8 [1994 to date] - Mcnabb 77.5 - [1999 to date] and only 1 season (2002) was McNabb's single season QB rating able to eclipse Johnson's current lifetime average rating) but it wasn't that long ago that Johnson was considered to be a forgettable "has been that never was", exiled from the Redskins to Tampa Bay.

"Has been" Johnson responded with solid performances that helped his team get to and win the Super Bowl.

Of course Johnson didn't find himself in the same media flap as Mcnabb has been thrust into but one has to wonder if the situation was reversed, if the very white Johnson would have found as many passionate and vocal allies as Donovan Mcnabb has today.

I hate to say it, but I don't think so.

Thought I'd throw in some added information about this.

I just got a call from a company called Braun Research Inc. polling callers of their impressions of this flap. The company's name and # came in on my caller ID. In questioning the poller, she was not able to say directly if ESPN or anyone else had requested the poll but she did say that ESPN uses them a lot.

The questions were not loaded either way. My impression was that the questions were very objective.

Looks like ESPN is expressing some concern over the fallout of this.

Yep. These types of quarterbacks never win the big one until they mature and use the run as a secondary weapon. McChoke can't (yet) because his passing accuracy stinks.

McChoke is no where near as good as McNair, not as good as Culpepper, and not as good as Favre, whose at the tail end of his career.Philly won't win unless he becomes a pocket passer first.

But they won't win anyway in the short term because by the end of the season the New York Giants will have emerged as the new dominant team in the NFC. (hehe)

McChoke is Randall Cunningham redux.

It doesn't matter if Rush told the truth, the PC gods demand that you never mention such things. (even though people have thought the same thing)
