Chris Matthews admitted to voting for several Republicians in the past. And when asked he admitted he voted for GeorgeBush. He said I surprised you didn't I. It is at the very end of his show.

He did, in fact, vote for Bush 43; I've heard him say it before.

You have to understand that Matthews LOVES George W. Bush; they had a meeting of the minds when Matthews interviewed him; and they are both recoverning alcoholics.

Ask yourself, why would he SAY he voted for him if he didn't -- especially being a Democrat!

But realistically, there is no way to verify if that is true or not. I am not convinced he voted for the president.

I hope you don't truely believe that. Chris Matthews is a liberal tool that only gets used for the big plays. So the governorship of California isn't a big play?? If Matthews was a liberal tool he wouldn't be one Arnold's biggest supporters.

I was so curious, I watched the rerun.

I'm not sure I believe Mathews at all. First of all, he was talking to Frank Luntz, the republican pollster, and they talking about California's election. Mathews wasn't talking to a politician. It seemed frivolous to me, and the conversation was about voters surprising pollsters.

Luntz predicted Wesley Clark would win the South Carolina primary. He said South Carolina republicans could cross over vote in primaries, there were lots of military voters in South Carolina.

Mathews told Luntz he had voted for republicans in the past, Luntz basically ignored the comment, and moved on to finish a response he had begun. When Luntz stopped talking, Chris repeated, "I have voted for republicans, and one of them was Bush." Luntz looked stunned, then Mathews said, "I did surprise you, didn't I?"

So I'm not so sure Mathews wasn't being flip, just joking around. One thing for sure, it was such a throwaway line, Mathews could certainly get away with claiming it was, to the ghost of Tip O'Neill.

Chris comes from a mostly Republican family. His brother Jim has been elected in this area (suburban Philly) as a Republican. I know that Chris worked for several high profile Democrats and he tends liberal, but he is actually one of the few talk show hosts who I believe can understand the arguments from both sides of the aisle.

Also, I am convinced that he would like to spit on Clinton.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Chris admit to voting for Clinton twice. I remember it because for some ridiculous reason I was surprised after he'd run down Hillary and been fairly critical of Clinton's scandals. Hmmm...

The problem with Chris is not his party affiliation but his admiration for charismatic characters regardless of ideology or character.

You nailed it! And that's why I can't stand the guy. My wife loves him because he's Irish Catholic. I just detest media folks who get all weak-kneed in the presence of heads of state. Like Dan Rather with Castro. Chris would have fawned over Joe Stalin, given the opportunity.

You're right. Chris seems to me to be an old-school liberal democrat of the JFK era. The fact that he voted for Bush says quite a bit about Al Gore! Apparently Gore was too extreme, phoney and mechanical for even Chris Matthews. What a hoot!
