" Lord our God and God of all generations, grant that none may hate us, and let hatred for others never enter our hearts. Unite us in the reverence of Your name; keep us far from the things You hate, and draw us near to the things You love; O treat us with compassion for Your name's sake."

(Silent Yom Kippur prayer)

"Gemar chatimah tovah" "May you be sealed for good in the Book of Life." The Book of Life which was opened on Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year, will be closed and sealed on Yom Kippur.

As the strains of the beautiful and solemn melody of "Kol Nidre "(all vows) fills synagogues throughout the world at sundown this coming Sunday, Oct. 5, Yom Kippur, the most sacred day on the Jewish calendar, will begin.

"Kol Nidre" is sung three times during the beginning of the service, thereby signifying the annulment of all vows and oaths made by man to God and not carried out are hereby canceled and made void.

This very solemn day is one filled with prayers of confession in which forgiveness is asked for sins and are recited 10 times. The Amidah, the prayer of praise and petition is said silently five times while standing. Many pious Jews remain standing during the entire day of prayer. Abstinence from work, play, food and entertainment and the comfort of wearing leather shoes are part of this day of fasting which will end as darkness approaches and the shrill blast of the shofar (ram's horn) is heard for the first and only time during these services.

God helps those who help themselves. Stop pre-projecting what the "world" thinks and whack Arafat. Tell the Palestinians to round up all their terrorists, else Israel target ALL Palestinians.

It would be over in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

Sidney telephones Rabbi Levy.
He says, "Rabbi, I know tonight
is Yom Kippur, but tonight the
Yankees are in the playoffs.
Rabbi, I'm a life-long Yankees
fan. I've got to watch the
Yankees game on TV." Rabbi
Levy replies, "Sidney, that's
what video recorders are for."
Sidney is surprised. "You mean
I can tape Yom Kippur?"
