THE thing I have not heard is ANYONE calling for Novack's head, and they should be.

No one is calling for Novak's head because: (1) the press won't because he is one of them and they highly value their access to leaked information, classified or not; (2) the Republicans won't because he leaked something from a Bush source; (3) the Dems won't because (a) they want the focus to be on the Bush administration and (b) don't want to alienate the media.

Yes, Novak should be sad down upon a hot griddle. I don't think journalists should go to jail for poor judgment and chasing headlines...if that were the case, we'd have to lose a lot of them. However I do think Novak should step forward now and finger the leaker. If he refuses to, he is knowingly putting his country and the Bush administration through a long hard damaging witch hunt for no reason...and maybe that kind of journalistic disregard for his country's welfare should be a crime.
