Paid once a year - my sister jsut received her registration for a Toyota Solara (sp) is $300.

I believe CA has a property tax on cars. I read that families with 2 or more cars (it's CA - more cars than people) could see a bill in the $2500 range.
What makes Davis such a true bonehead, the tax bills are sent out in October. So a lot of those voters going to the polls just got their car assesment bills.
