Davis in his concession speech showed class, congratulating Schwarzenegger and promising to cooperate with him during the transition.

Gotta give the devil his due. Davis is a master of the old "smile in their face while stabbing them in the back" technique.

Dan Weintraub understands California better than the pack of liberal establishment journalists who will spin yesterday's election as an "isolated event." Dan is clear to the point that if the Democrats don't dump socialism and soon, they will become a minority party like in Texas. A prospect which doesn't disturb me in the least. Will they learn their lessons? I don't think the Democratic establishment here has gotten why the voters were turned off cold.

My gut tells me they are wrong, that there is something deeper here, a desire for fundamental change in the way the state does business and in the way politics works, or doesn’t work, in California.

There is a strong anti-incumbent and anti-elitist element to this Recall that Republicans would be foolhardy to ignore. There is a pervasive unaccountability in politicians of both parties that is increasingly difficult to conceal.

It's bigger than that. While the Democrats have failed spectacularly in California, aftershocks of the Recall earthquake will shudder through electorates nationwide for years.

There is a strong anti-incumbent and anti-elitist element to this Recall that Republicans would be foolhardy to ignore. There is a pervasive unaccountability in politicians of both parties that is increasingly difficult to conceal.

Nobody in the mainstream media or the elite leadership will broach this subject, so I will. Illegal immigration was the unspoken undercurrent that swept this whole thing along, even more so than the car tax. Davis' last minute pandering by reversing himself and granting the drivers licenses cemented his own demise. Even a surprisingly large percentage of Latinos were disgusted by this move! This is a popular uprising that has been in the making for ten years now.

Our civic and institutional leaders had better get it through their thick skulls that we Americans don't want our country turned into north Mexico. Decent, fair-minded people are more than willing to let in honest, law-abiding citizens, but you had better do it "by the book".

The way I read it is that the New Leftists, hippies, and other assorted whackos of the 1960s are now in charge of all of the levers of power in the liberal establishment. These people are very good at protesting, seizing control, and arguing until everyone else gets tired and goes home, leaving them in command of the situation.

But they are very poor at governing. They are impatient, full of grievances, dictatorial, and unwilling to compromise. And they are extremely reluctant to relinquish power in the normal way. They stay in power by bringing in supporters exactly like themselves and expelling anyone who breaks ranks or thinks differently.

As a result, they usually can only be expelled from power after they have wrecked whatever organization they have taken charge of. Even then they have to be dragged from the wreckage kicking and screaming.

Believe me, I have lived with these sorts of people for the past forty years. I have watched them grow old and sour and set in their ways. Their fingers must be pried from the levers of power, because they will never relinquish them willingly, no matter how big a mess they have made.

Yeah, I was watching both of their speeches. This is what I noticed.

When Davis was speaking, and mentioned Arnold, the crowd erupted in boos and derrogatory statements about Arnold. And .. what I noticed was that Davis DID NOTHING TO STOP IT. This showed a total disrepect for the Gov. Elect.

However, when Arnold gave his speech and said that Davis had called and was very gracious .. there were a few people down in front who started booing and shouting .. immediately .. and without hesitation .. Arnold pointed to them and said , "no no, no no, and refused to allow them to disrespect the "office of Gov". This was amazing - and I'm confident I'm not the only one who noticed.
