I had never heard of "Christian dominionism".

It wouldn't do you much good to have heard about it, since that isn't what the Chalcedon bunch calls their own ideas. I have the disadvantage of actually having read their material some years back, so I don't get to share the expertise you have gained in learning all about them from this thread in one evening.

Oh, I think it's fair to say that "dominionism" and the Chalcedon Foundation go hand in hand.

And you base that on which of their writings?

It depends on what you mean by "dominionism". For some that means an imposition of Christian belief on a society, much like medieval Catholic culture. That isn't what Chalcedon writes about. Chalcedon has a vision of a society that orders itself by biblical law on a democratic basis. Whether or not that is the least bit likely is another matter. From their website:

http://www.chalcedon.edu/desk/vision_statement.shtml

No government in any form can make men Christians or truly obedient; this is the work of God’ sovereign grace. Much less should civil government try to impose Biblical law on an unbelieving society. Biblical law cannot be imposed; it must be embraced.

I base it on their deeds, Pelham. It's in the public record. Take a look for yourself. They've certainly been active in Virginia.

We have Warner as governor to show for it, too.

To clarify, since I shouldn't expect you to understand Virginia politics any more than I understand California politics, the three most "religious right" candidates run in Virginia in my memory, Mark Earley (for governor), Ollie North (for senator), and Mike Farris (lieutenant governor), all lost.

Virginia is the "old dominion" but there is a limit to what the voters in Virginia will go for.

I know people who would rather have Democrats elected than compromise on Republicans, but I am not one of them.

Actually, I have been reading "Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat" by Wayne P. Hughes. The next book on my "do read" list is "Downfall" by Richard Frank, followed by another pass through "The Quet Warrior" by Thomas Buell.

Now, do you have anything better than childish insults - or is that all you are intellectually capable of?

Lol! Such big books! Aren't you the smart boy!

Somehow I got the impression that it was you who suddenly jumped into the discussion with an opening salvo of "bigot". Now, that wasn't very nice of you, was it hchoochie? Play nice, or the grownups will send you to your room.

You base your opinion on the actions of which members of Chalcedon, exactly? Or are you including them in the "religious right" that is active in Virginia?

I studied Chalcedon's writings and talked with some of their members some 15 years ago. They wrote about theology, culture, and some politics, but unlike the "religious right" their main focus wasn't politics. They patterned themselves on the Calvinists of the American founding era, who were involved with society and government, in contrast to "fundamentalist" Christians who withdrew into a subculture in the early 20th century.
